Only One Key Fob When I Picked The Car Up Grrrrrrrrrrr

Featured Replies

Right just got tit x home after hours on trains and buses YUCK ! and the Garage only had the one key fob so I need to get another one sorted.
The car has a push button start but no button on the door for opening etc so I have to us the key fob buttons to do all the work.

Any idea how much it costs to get another keyfob made up and is it a ford main dealer job only.

Cheers all.

Ford will charge about £400+

Get a new fob off ebay and tap some local auto locksmiths- far cheaper.

Had a spare done at an independent, cost £120 and took an hour with programming.

All done for £143, it took about 20mins to do, said to the guy " I think i'm in the wrong job" lol

Why did you say your in the wrong job.

There's a lot more to consider.

key cutting machine costs between 5 & 11K.

programming equipment between 5 & 11k.

van, cost of parts etc etc....

We charge similar but I'm amazed people still go to the dealer , leave there car there and have their trousers pulled down.

I'm with scrumpynut on this one although mine cost £120 you hardly put up a valid argument, its a wide over estimated valuation at between 5 &11k and the only perhaps expensive part is the transmitter, having set up two business's myself setup cost have been far higher than this , so put in a better argument than this and lets face your charges are simply based on undercutting the main dealers and not on a cost related turnover. you don't even mention the tax relief on equipment and the vat relief on fuel.

I'm a bit lost. Are you saying you can set up an Autolocksmith business for less.

I have over 30k in machines/computors and stock in my van, plus the cost of the van, plus the cost of running the business etc etc

Then there's the cost of running the shop.

We could argue over this for ever but, unless your in it, you wont see what it cost's to run it.

I don't have a clue what your 2 business's are , and i'm sure they are very successful but my point was and is, paying £143 for a ford remote is a little steep but isn't really over the top.

Chaps my comment to the guy was for a joke, what hits me more is why ford would want the car for two hours and hit ya with a cost of £400.
the keyfob I got is a nice ford one, it works fine so i'm happy.

Because they can scrumpy.

If people will pay, Ford will charge.

To programme a key into the new fords (most with the Aston martin grill), it take the dealer up to 4 hours to extract the out code and up to another 4 hours to put in the in code.

I wonder how they're charging for this
