Mondeo Ghia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to this club, so if I'm in the wrong forum, sorry.

I've had a 2006 Mondeo zetec petrol manual for 5 years, now due to a medical problem I have to have an automatic.

I've found a low mileage 2007 Mondeo ghia petrol automatic, but the previous owner has put a really ugly stereo in, my question is, will my stereo from my 2006 zetec fit straight into a 2007 ghia, I'm pretty sure the 2007 ghia had a sony 6 cd changer as standard, as I bought a new Mondeo tdci ghia back in 2005.

Any info would be appreciated.

Ian

Are they both mk3 Mondeos, or is the newer a mk4?

Hi,

Both mk3, the newer one is at the dealership, I'm a bit anal when it comes to cars, especially when I buy them, gave them a list of things to put right before money changes hands, 10 days before I get it, they did say I could swap my standard stereo with the ugly unit that's in there at the moment, but I've been told by various people in the trade, "yes it will fit" and "no it wont".

One guy said the centre consoles are different on a ghia upwards, more shaped, and a different surround.

As my old one is a Zetec, the newer one a ghia, I don't want to mess around at the dealership when we swap cars.

Ian

I think that it will probably swap straight over, as long as the aperture is the same shape. Without seeing both cars I wouldn't like to say for certain though. The Zetec unit should have a connection to enable the auto changer (if fitted) in the Ghia.

Also, it would depend if the chimp who fitted the aftermarket unit did a proper job, and left the loom intact, and didn't splice the wires up.

In conclusion, in theory, should be okay.

Anyone else who has a mk3 want to weigh in on this?

After using Google to look at the differences, I still reckon you'd probably get the Zetec unit in.

What is actually wrong with the current unit the Ghia has? Unless it is a cheapo Alba unit from Argos or something of that ilk, i'd be tempted to take it out at your leisure, flog it on the bay and get yourself a Ghia spec head unit with the proceeds.

Hi,

The "ugly" unit is a JVC touch screen, and it hasn't been fitted very well, you can see the metal fixing box,

But I think you're right, I'll get my son to sell it on ebay, he thinks it's it looks great, no accounting for taste.

Hopefully I can get one from ebay.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Ian

Ah then you should be able to get a Ghia unit and change! That will sell easy

I think the standard lx and zetec HiFi units use a different fitting cage to the Ghia Ghia x Sony 6cd unit, tit and titx had single discuss Sony's,not 100 on that, but look into this carrier cage holder issue.

Hi,

I think I'll leave things as they are for now, I was going to get a 6cd sony from ebay, buy all the car guys I know said they always go wrong., and to stick with a single cd player.

So I'll have to put up with the "ugly" one for now.

Regards

Ian

The Sony 6cd unit has a problem sometimes were the cds will jam, although I never had this issue myself,I took the precaution of never loading

more than 5 cds into the thing, never had any probs.

Mac.
