55 Plate Tdci Fault Codes

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have a problem with my tdci. I bought her as a non runner just over a year ago. I was advised that she had had her injectors changed and ran for a while before giving up. She was put into a garage to see why but nothing was done and she was sold to me. Me, being possibly an idiot, took this car on hoping it would be a relatively easy fix and because I was looking for a diesel estate.

I have changed the fuel filter, changed the starter relay, changed a few other fuses and relays, put more fuel in her, charged the battery up, nothing. Well, she'll turn over but wont start. I've been advised to join a forum such as this in the hope someone will be able to tell me what the codes are that have flagged up. They are ISO9141 and KWP2000. followed by LINK ERROR! I have been bending the ear of a chap via a mk3 mondeo page on facebook but there is only so much he can tell me before it gets too complicated for me. I think he reckons there is a module fried or an ecu packed up. Either way, I have a budget for getting this car sorted and its quickly running out.

If anyone can help me with these codes and point me in the right direction to getting the old girl running again, I just want to hear her purr :-)

Thanks guys

I dont believe that they are fault codes. I did just google it to see if i could find out what they were but they certainly dont appear to be fault codes.

I believe that fault codes are normally p0141 for example. If your machine is showing link error, then it would seem as though your reader is not reading your car.

I would try another fault code reader.

As Ryan says your code reader aint connected.

The work thats been done will have allowed air into the fuel system and it can take an awful lot of cranking to get it through initially.

It's a self bleed system and in my experience, can easily wear out a single battery well before the system has cleared of air.

Try hooking up two batteries when you're at it coz these engines need a lot of cranking power to spin them enough to start.

Other than broken springs, non starts is about the only fault I ever get with these cars at work (greenflag). I'm fortunate to have a commercial boost pack which starts them no bother even if they've run out of fuel but you'll be lucky to get it going with just it's own battery, even if it's well charged.

Check if it's lifting fuel by pulling off the feed pipe on top of the filter and give it a wee turn over to see if fuel squirts out.

Did you fill the filter when you replaced it?

Have a very good look at the fuel lines that run back from the filter, down under the bulk head, corrosion can eat away at the pipes so they become porous and allow air to get in, but don't always show with a leak

There's not much else you will be able to do with the fuel system yourself, testing the high pressure pump and injectors etc is really work for a mechanic/tech.

If there is a module or ecu fault a diagnostics may show "no comms" as opposed to a code.

A faulty sensor, eg camshaft sensor can prevent them from starting but usually a sensor fault will throw up a code.

Lastly make sure the wee red immobiliser light goes off.

We should be able to give you more help if you can have the codes checked properly, so let us know how you get on.

Good luck
