Nate6874
I got into my mk3 to pop to Asda, there was a loud twang and the drivers door (open) was wedged on the pavement. Car is pulling to the drivers side. Had a look without the wheel off and can't see anything obvious, I recently changed the drop links on both sides and they seem intact still. I'm thinking broken spring. Any ideas?
stef123
Have a look at the spring, usual culprit where a twang is involved lol
Nate6874
Had a look, can't see anything. Given it a yank about and no movement. I'll jack it up and take off the wheel tomorrow afternoon. Probably change whole strut.
stef123
Have a look at the very bottom of the spring. be careful of driving it with a broken front spring, if the pig tail has snapped off the entire spring can slip over the strut meaning your car will hit the deck. I will upload a pic shortly of what I mean

Nate6874
Cheers. I've got a choice to make now. Standard springs or lowering.
stef123
If it is a broken spring, they are a bit of a pain to do on the front of the mk3 as the strut assembly is bigger than the gap so you need to compress it slightly first.
Nate6874
With spring compressors?
stef123
Yeah they would probably work fine, I use a hydraulic unit now so I have to compress them with the jack and use paracord to tie them in the compressed position.
Nate6874
Well had the front wheel off, the top mount has basically come apart. The lower plastic component has failed and come apart.
