Hi all

I have a 2000 plate st200 (116000 original miles) which has a good service history and I have changed the oil and filter every 3ooomiles, I have always asked for 5 / 30 fully synthetic oil which I was happy with. That was untill my last oil change and now when I eccelreate hard the enginge makes a light rattling sound, not a heavy knocking (Hoping its not the big ends gone).

What would you guys check first to try and sort this out.

There are no oil leeks, its not smoking at all, no horrible smells, and it dosen't use any oil as I make sure with regular checks. Not overheating.

I live in the lancashire area so if worst comes to worst any recommendations on a reconditioned engine.

Have you checked that it's not the exhaust heat shields rattling?

If the bolts/mounts rust then the shields can come loose and make a godawful noise.

Definitely not big ends they make a heavy knocking sound. Is the rattle sound at engine speed or road speed ?

Just had the exaust checked, apart from the not sure of the name for it but its the bendy bit, that could do with being replaced.

I reckon you will find it isn't the engine rattling, it will be a shield or something. Nice car by the way, I reckon the prices should start heading north on these soon. I had a ST24 but always longed for the ST200.
