Hi all.

On a recent service (3000 miles ago) my car was picked up for having a noisy cv boot. I was sent a video by the Ford engineer showing the nearside boot making a rubbing noise. Since then the offside cv boot has started making the same noise. Ford have quoted me £220 inclusive of VAT. Is this right? My friend who works for a warranty company has said this may be expensive.the job should take 1.4 hours with the part being £40.

Disappointed that after 20000 miles this has happened. Can i fixthis cheaper elsewhere and can i purchase the parts elsewhere as I and my wife both get trade discount?

    Noisey cv boot or joint? If its the boot ignore it or lubricate the boot pleats.

    If the boot is rubbing does that mean there will be damage? I cant see any but ford have quoted me on the result of the inspection. If there is damage surely dirt can get in and damagethe joint?

    If thry split then grease will escape, the noise is due to the material the boots are made of now. Your choice , but I wouldnt on basis of a rubbing sound.just my opinion. If you are concerned, get them replaced

    £220 about right 1.4 hours labour, parts and 20% vat on top
