Update on my accident repair

Featured Replies

As I posted here last week I drove my poor fiesta into a lamp post last week whilst temporarily being dazzled by the sun.

It will be just under £3000 to repair but inurance have approved it and it is going ahead.

Ran the body shop this morning and apparently all the parts are available except and bonnet hinge and something else (?? heat deflector or something??)

Anyway, the bonnet hing at the moment is nit available and I can't believe this could hold things up for some time.

They wull update me tomorrow, so fingers crossed.

Did you take pics of it so that we can all see what £3,000 worth of damage actually looks like?

The body shop that have mine phoned this morning and it still has a completion day of thurday. I'm hoping they can bring it back on friday so I can go to see The Final Destination.

I have pics on my mobile, will have to ask my son how to upload this, lol.

Will try and do it later, apparently I need a new bumper, bonnet, repair to air conditioning, a new radiator and I am not sure if the headlights were damaged.

As I said earlier I have the photo on my mobile and my son had it on his computer and emailed it to me, but how do I get it on here??

Thanks for any help.

Just as long as you have more luck than anyone who features in that film!

If you've got it saved on your computer, you just need to go onto the albums section of your account and create a new one and just upload it on there.

I think you can get to it through the "My Controls" link and it's on the left near subscriptions I think. Once you've got an album created, you'll have a "My Albums" link next to your Controls one at the top of the page for easy access.

ouch!!

you tax disk looks like its half way up the window aswell

Ouch!

Looks like whatever you hit didn't give way at all. It actually looks like the neatest crash I've seen really. Perfectly in the middle. Doesn't even look like the headlamps have moved at all

Yes my hubby said I managed to hit it right in the middle which although bad enough was the best place, doesn't seem to have damaged the wings etc.

Just waiting for an update on the parts situation today.

May i ask what speed you were doing when you hit the light post.

not very fast was going to park and the sun was very low in the sky and dazzled me for a moment, it is a very badly designed car park and the lamp posts are in the middle of the spaces and not isolated in any way. The air bags did not activate.

Being a pain i no but if you had to guess the speed what would you say, just so i can get a rough idea

of how badly damaged they will get on impact at different speeds.

the airbags will not go off if the impact is not forcefull enough and the impact did not strike in the area of the sensor

or sensors.Dont be fooled by safety and airbags there is always that chance at 70mph they will not inflate

Ouch, that's a nasty ding!

For future reference, to post image on here, you need to copy the plain link to the right of the image, the one beginning with "http://..." and when you're posting a message, click the picture icon. It's the fourth one in from the right and paste your URL in there.

I hate it when it has just been raining - you're driving along a stretch of road with hills/dips and bends - and then the bright afternoon sun gleams & dazzles you low in the sky & reflects off the tarmac! That's a recipe for disaster - and I've been suddenly caught out like that on several occasions though fortunately with no consequences to date (fingers crossed!). I now keep a good quality pair of sunglasses in my car for just such conditions - and they really do help. Hope it gets repaired soon & you're back on the road before long.

OMG - that is worse than I was expecting to see!

!Removed! hell thats awful, I know you said you were not going too fast, but I take it you didnt brake at all? so hit it at full force of whatever speed you were doing? at least you are ok but your poor brum brum.

That is nasty when it's been raining and the sun comes out. My driving instructor said you must get some sun glasses. I got prescription one that are the same as my normal glasses but have Polaroid lenses in. I'm glad I got them as the sun visors in the car are way to big to have down!

To answer your questions I am really not sure what speed I was doing but not very fast as I was heading to the empty part of the car park to avoid car park dents etc, ironic!. My son was also in the car and dazzled suddenly too, I am sure I applied the brakes but the lamp post had no barrier or anything, I have replayed it so many times in my mind but as it was a pure accident and so unexpected it is hard to recall my exact actions.

Needless to say I am devastated about the car but glad that my son and I were unhurt, heard from the body shop today and still unable to obtain a bonnet hinge and air deflector?reflector?? so annoyed this will hold up repair as only have the replacement car (Corsa) until Weds.

That looks awful! Glad you and your son are ok from that. It must have been really scary! I would be seriously crying big tears if that happened to my car. I don't think it matters how fast you were going, if you were moving at 1 mile an hour that would still be a mess. Maybe cars nowadays have a instant crush/safety thing so that if we hit people/objects etc the car takes most of the impact and not the pedestrian/object.

That is a lot worse than I expected, but the main thing is you and your son were ok. Your car will come back as good as new.

Sunnies on for every evening drive from now on then? hehe.
