Best Dashcam For Mk7 Fiesta

Any other Mobius users use the "motion detect" setting? i.e: Start recording when motion has been detected? (car parked up, or something like that?)

I don't because I replaced the battery with a super capacitor (no power to camera unless ignition on) however I know other forum members use that setting & works ok.

That's a nice set up there Lee, I might try something similar but at the moment I'm using the suction mount, which has to be remounted every now and then because it tends to fall off eventually. I Bought the sticky mount too but haven't used it yet, maybe I'll try it like yours but on the other side of the rain sensor trim.

As for motion detection, I never tried it. I usually set the camera recording if I'm leaving the car for a while if I remember. The thing with motion detection is, if anyone damages the car while you're gone the camera has a less than 50/50 chance of catching them, and even if it catches them getting away that doesn't prove anything. At least if it's running the whole time you're away from the car you have a chance of getting some evidence.

Hey Phil, that's the ideal place to mount ... if you have the rain sensor/active city stop trim - which I do know you have. When recording it's a clear view of the road, there is no plastic trim in sight in the recordings. Also I have it mounted over on the drivers side just so I can see if the recording LED is on, otherwise if would be a case of leaning over the the passenger side - which isn't really ideal, lol.

That's also the main reason why I opted for the permanent mount, as the suctions ones do tend to get loose over time. Meaning having to re-set the position of the camera, with the use of the OTG cable and mobile phone (WebCam option) - aka faffing about :D

Yes I also remember you saying this too, just to clarify... when you park up for a long period of time, you turn the camera on and let it record until the battery dies, correct? I don't know if you're aware of this, but there has been a firmware update on the Mobius. There is now a new setting for the Power-off Disconnect option, as before we had limited options, IIRC they were: "Immediate, 10secs, 30secs, disabled" Where as now, we have these new settings:

^ I think I have that option set to immediate, because most of the time the car is either parked at home or work so no need to waste the battery & memory recording there. And yes I would leave it recording until the battery dies but it's usually not that long. Then if it's still recording when I get back, turning on the ignition doesn't interrupt it so you get a continuous video when you set off again.

Some wire improvements, as I had a little spare wrapped once around mirror... Just in case I decided the remount camera. Instead exceed wire had now been tucked inside the plastic trim surround

Taken mine inside the mirror surround and like a lot on here in the plastic by the side of pass

door pilar and it pops out under glove box by fuse box, very simple and 2 amp fuse in piggy back.

A few pics below of how mine fits on plastc.

So how and where do you hard wire the dash cam to the fuse box?

Sent from my iPad using Ford OC

This is the fuse slot i used ( rear wiper ) and put another fuse as i had to have some more wire anyway so just put one with a fuse on,earth is on the nut top right of the pic.

Do you not have to step the voltage down from 12v to 5v. Thought all these cameras ran on 5v.

Best dash cam? I've had four different dash cams and the best by far is the SJ1000. It's easy to fit, if amazingly cheap, films in beautifully sharp HD, has a good mic and can be detached with ease. I've had it recording every single journey of mine for over two years now without a hitch.

Search these forums for 'SJ1000' and you'll surely find my previous posts where I've gone into some detail over fitting it up behind your rear view mirror.

Ah ok I understand the pic now. Piggyback fuse. Thanks for the info.

This is handled by any hardwire kit, which has a little transformer. Also anyone hardwiring a cig lighter adapter won't have to worry because this is handled by the cig adapter that will be plugged in.

Thanks all for the posts so far, I really appreciate it. The Möbius is definitely sounding like a good contender, and the price point seems fairly decent.

Lee, thanks in particular for the wiring and description, it matches exactly what I thought would be necessary, having ran a fair few metres of extra cables round my car now! I'll start looking at prices more this week, I think and any other bits I will need to purchase :)

You won't go wrong with Mobius although i have mine as a spare as i found this one 'cdv300x' but hard to find.

It's just what you like and want.

I did't want a window sucker or a large screen as then open to thieves a lot more

Wanted mine hidden as much as poss and mobius is so small and LOADS of setting.

And never take mine out.
