I can also see the difference and will be intresting to see what you make of them in the dark. the car is coming along great keep up the good work

Well I can definitely see the difference now. I haven't had a chance to get out in full darkness yet but driving around yesterday evening about 7.30/8 I could really see how much brighter they are over standard. Nice white tint too without being HID blinding. Very impressed. And I have to say the car still feels as lively as ever so I'm assuming my HID-power drain theory could have some truth to it.

The car is coming along well baz. I'm so happy with it at the minute.

Next mod plans are:

•Alloys refurbed black/silver

•ZS rear bumper

•Dual exit exhaust (only after getting the ZS rear)

•Wrapped wing mirrors

•New centre caps + badges

Possible mods/dreams/ideas:

•Bola B10 alloys

•Full car wrap

•Coilover suspension

Obviously those are more expensive but I'm thinking of going all out for the next Ford Fair Portrush gathering as this year's i was at and was shocked to find not one MK3 Focus that wasn't an ST. I was quite annoyed I didn't show mine then lol Next year though ;)

  • Folks you may have noticed that I've been relatively quiet on here for a while. The reason being, my wife and I have bought our first house together. We are finally getting settled and all is well so

  • That house looks very small... Or is it just far away?

Coilovers you say ? Have a handy screw driver on you :). You car will become KPGS MK3 focus Titanium " the omg coilovers rattle edition " :).

It's rattling away at the minute anyways. !Removed! sports springs. No one can find out why though.

Cars tend to have their own little sounds which from factory are not amplified by the ride quality. These sounds may go away as things settle in or worse become more prevalent.

My KW V3 has over 40% stiffer springs than stock. So you can imagine that every inch I cover is amplified quite a bit. Combine that with the high quality shocks which need to rebound properly so you stick to the road under all scenarios what do you get ?

A car where you need to turn the music louder. This is the price to pay for having proper handling.

I recommend you go for a coilover set I just wanted to let you know that your little project will sound like a broken stereo from all the shaking and rattling.

Ford does not pad as good as other premium manufacturers:(.f85d32b15d37ffe5ad07309bfa98a0fb.jpg

I went for H&R 35mm springs. It rattles quite badly from driver side strut and squeaks/rattles from the rear also. A set of followers couldn't be any more rattly than it already is?

What are your bump and rebound settings ? If you are using the stock absorbers then consider yourself lucky.

I got a pretty tight set up on my car and on medium to bad quality roads you wish you walked. On cobble stoned parts, you wish you were put out of your misery.

Car rattle is a combination of all : springs, rebound and bump. Imagine having high rebound and driving at 100 mph on a road that is not even.

The more bumps the more you will feel the absorber working to give you grip. Hence , vibrations in the car more often :) :).

Of course you cannot go all soft on the suspension of you end up driving Miss Daisy at extremely low speeds because you lack grip on the rear on the front.

Coilovers bring out weaknesses on many cars. The focus is super weak on the rear as it needs more padding and better build quality so I don't rattle at low speeds like I do now :).

Funny you mention that. I only rattle at low speed. Ie. Reversing out of the drive or taking a slow corner.

All of them rattle at low speeds and have no noise at high speeds. The more rebound the more things will get lose and join the rattle party at low speeds :)

What absorbers are you looking into ? Fully customisable or just the plug and play ones ?

Prob just plug and play tbh. Although I was thinking of getting sports shocks paired with the H&Rs instead of coilovers.

Eibach ? Bilstein?;)

Was looking at Bilstein actually. Can't remember which ones, not the B6 cause I read theyre not great. Haven't looked at eibach yet. Are the prices similar? Do you think uprated shocks would help handling and possibly lower slightly more? I don't really know what to do tbh. I want to get the rear of the car sorted in regards to bumper and exhaust before the next Ford Fair here. Anything I do suspension wise will be a long way away.

Unplanned very quick mod update.

Literally in the last 20mins I read that post about removing the snorkel and the benefits it has for my cars engine, the 1.6 Tivct.

This is what I removed:

That rubber thing was kinda just floating in place so I took it out. I figure more space means more air? Probably doesn't but what the hell. I'll report back later after a drive.

What is your budget ? Your car looks great you'd want it to handle well too. You said last time that you were surrounded by ST models.

If you just want the car to look good without proper handling them I am sure your current springs are enough.

I was sceptical as to how much difference taking out those bits would make but after just being out there for a 'spirited' drive I can say that it does make a difference. The car feels like it picks up quicker in the low revs and acceleration is smoother. Startup from cold was nicer too, no roughness or jumpy acceleration.

Budget wise, not much tbh. If I get fed up eventually with the squeaks and knocks I'll just put stock springs back in until I can get a good set of coilovers. My car handles find. It's tight in the corners and feels planted. Just makes weird noises.

Someone find me the ZS rear skirt !! Can't find one at all at a decent price. :'(

What do you call a decent price? When I was looking g for a zetec s rear bumper for my Focus I found a brand new one for about £345. That to me is quite good. Didn't get one coz the car soon went.

I suppose that was unpainted? I was hoping to pay less than that but looks like I'll have to settle for full price.

On the other hand, I've cleaned and oiled my air filter this evening with the Green Cotton cleaner kit. Waiting for the oil to settle then putting it back in.

Air filter is back in. Went for a quick trip up the road. I think a combination of the snorkel delete and a clean filter has made a noticeable difference. Car feels nice to drive and pulls quite well, better than before anyways.

It's in a right state at the minute though :/

God damn country roads.

Since last post the car has most definitely been cleaned:

I've posted on the snorkel delete thread about battery disconnecting, resetting woes. I've got the snorkel back on for a few days and a new air filter ordered so once that arrives I'll do the delete again.

I went for the K&N E-9289 with the removable bung on the side. With report back with findings.

Also, narrowly missed out on a ZS rear bumper yesterday :( The search continues.

The car looks lovely and shiny again now but have you thought about fitting some mud flaps? Obviously it won't eliminate the problem entirely but it does help to limit quite how much mud you fling up the doors! I think some rally style flaps would complement the look of the car.

Your car does look great. I really like the blue highlighting you have been doing.

I probably don't need to ask but if you go down the rally flaps route, post here? I've been toying with getting some for mine. I'm terrible for accidentally rubbing the back of my leg on the door sill when I get out, which is it is manky I end up with a line across my leg :-/

I haven't really thought about it to be honest. I don't think I'd be a fan of those rally ones that stick out too far. I like subtlety in that area. I'm happy enough with how the car looks as it stands. That particular drive was back roads mud, which I don't usually do so dirt like that hardly ever shows on the car.

Now to get that elusive ZS rear diffuser :(

Oh my air filter arrived today so before I leave work I'll put that in and delete the snorkel again and report with findings.

Yea happens to me too with the side skirts. If it's dirty I get dirt on my trousers and a big clean patch on the skirts lol
