Mk3 Weak Points

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Im newbie and hope we will understand each other very well. I post here because this is first ,more or less, active ford forum.

So i am in search for my first car and there is a great deal for mk3 mondeo 2.2 TDCI sedan. It looks nice, no rust is seeable, atleast from pictures. I have a nice semi leather seats and i general nice interior. All time i have been a VAG guy so i dont know much aboit Fords. So i want to know what are the weak points in this car to pay attention.

And does the 2005 2.2 TDCI have DPF ?

There's no D.P.F. on that car ( if it's U.K. spec ) :)

No DPF, watch out for rust on the door bottoms, check this from inside the car the seam seals is the place to look, other things that may need looking at are the EGR valve and the DMF flywheel, generally a pretty reliable car, just make sure it's serviced regularly, fuel filters can sometime by overlooked in DIY servicing

According to the ford part catalogue they did. I have been asked at the dealer also when I was buying an exhaust part if mine was fitted with one.

D.P.F.'s were fitted earlier in Europe than in the U.K. - my 2005 / 05 Mondeo ST TDCi had a cat & I'm sure all MK 3 TDCi's did.

My 2004 had a cat but no DPF, about that time the European cars started to get DPF's

On petrol cars, cats were mandatory from the factory from around 92 onwards?? Not sure if diesels were the same time or later?

Ok DPF is still a mystery. But maybe someone could answer to this question. To use navigation in blaupunkt travelpilot fx i need the navigation cd inserted all the time, or its need to be done only once ,like install the maps in head unit?
