05 Mondeo 1.8 Diabolical Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I'm new too the forum and an seeking some advice. ...

I recently Brought a1.8 lx mondeo and the fuel consumption is very poor! I don't no the problem or even were too start looking. £50 of petrol has got me under 200 miles is that normal or not?

Thanks guys

That's roughly 22 m.p.g. - not good.

My electronic mpg is still reading 33.2.

Could the dials be wrong and I actually have plenty of fuel in it?

The only way to get a correct fuel consumption figure is to fill the tank to the brim drive about a lot noting the miles you have driven then fill to the brim and note how much fuel you have put in a quick calculation will then give you your mpg, do this a couple of times as this will be more accurate, now if your computer is showing 33 mpg that may not be to bad depending on what sort of driving you are doing.

Having had a quick look around the net it seems that the 1.8 petrol is not that economical 22 ish in town and 38 on more open roads, so you may not be far out with your consumption but best check it with the full to brim method

Ok thanks I'll brim it and try! I'm sure there is a problem .... even on a long drive the miles just dissappear no matter how I drive it.

Thanks for your reply
