High Mileage Petrol ?

Featured Replies

hi ive seen a mk 4 petrol mondeo i'd like to buy, but it has 130k on the clock, is this too high ? ive done way past this mileage in diesels but switching to petrols now as do a lot of shorter commutes. the car has full dealer service history and is immaculate

basically what i'm after is some honest advice, as i have lttle knowlegde or experience if high mileage petrols, how long is it likely to go for ?????

cheers D

What size engine ?

Petrol engines are more than capable of higher mileage, there are many that have done more than diesels, mine has 149k and still drives perfect with no issues at all, as long as it has been looked after there is nothing to worry about

What size 2engine ?

2.0 litre

A mate of mine had a 2.0 petrol with 300k not even looked after very well, my brothers 2.3 quattro stopped recording miles at 495K and my mothers 1.8 was still running well at 650k but the rest fell apart, although she sold it for a lot more than when she bought it with 160k on, and the 1.3 mk2 escort I have just bought has a genuine 186k and still driving like new

2.0 he good engine and lasts well , seen them at 200k , only as they get higher miles they do drink a bit of oil, just need to check oil a bit more regular ( not every 12k!! lol)

Bought my 2l petrol Titanium Estate June 2013 with 127k on clock excellent condition both outside and inside, full service history, passed first Mot with no advisories passed second Mot after one brake caliper changed, now on top 131k and uses no oil and no rattles, I changed discs, pads and tyre all round when I bought it although could have delayed decided to have a clean start,

I was a bit wary when I bought it due to high mileage so took out green flag for reassurance, the first year came with free Halfords MOT so effectively it was free and I have not needed it and drive with full confidence in the car, I am very happy with my purchase of a full spec car a very cheap price and my only forced expenditure has been the caliper,

in my opinion if the car looks right and the price is right and service history then go for it, the petrols are certainly cheaper to maintain than the diesels.

I have a 09 Focus, bought with 125k on the clock, petrol 1.8, FSH and in near mint condition. Now knocking on the door of 130k and still drives like new. As long as it has been maintained it will be ok. My last Ford, a ST24, had 205k and was still going.
