I run a 2004 Mondeo TDCi Zetec S, never had a problem with it, done 130k miles and never missed a beat and a stills pulls like a train but over the last few day when ever i get to 1750-2000rpm the car feels like it 'coughing'. It only seems to do it in 4th, 5th and 6th. Ive read as much as i can find on what the problem might be as im praying it isnt the injectors but cant seem to find a definitive answer. It also smokes when i accelerate hard in 1st and 2nd and now smokes when im cruising down the motorway in 6th, its black smoke as well. All and any help would be appreciated

E.G.R.V. playing up ? - is it blanked ?

Its not had a service in a while(over a year, been lazy i know). a few folk have told me to have the air, fuel and oil filters changed, anyone know how much this would cost at a garage or is it an easy job to do by yourself?

You say the car smokes - black smoke indicates an air / fuel imbalance.

That what makes me think its the injectors or the cat

Change the fuel filter first & see what happens & blank the E.G.R.V.

Gonna sound like a total novice here but how to i blank the EGR valve
