Water/heat Problems 1.8 Duratec He

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I need some serious help asap.

I have a Mondeo 1.8 L X with the Duratec HE engine. Had problem with it getting very hot, and the expansion bottle getting rock hard and pressurised

Fitted a new thermostat today...an EVIL job, one the stupidest designs/placements I have ever seen!

Refilled with water/coolant as per books, got it up to temp, topped up fluid, took it for a run.

Checked when I got back, expansion bottle rock hard again, right hand side hose on rad as you look from front was red hot, the left hand side on going to the stat was barely warm, but expansion bottle was hot!

Heater blows out hot and cold air as normal....no lights on dash, temp guage as normal, just a tad below half way....... water circulating (I think). Old stat was in two parts though, cleaned out housing and made sure all bits were out of there. Any ideas guys?

I am in Hemel Hempstead if any one with knowledge is close enough and has the time/inclination to have a look?

Tea/coffee supplied in copious amounts if needed lol.

Skint till middle of next month so a garage is not an option for now, wife needs car for work!]

Thanks guys

Sounds like a blockage or a air lock

Agree entirely with James here, sounds like one of the pipes is blocked and thats causing the buildup of pressure. best thing to do is follow the hoses until you find a point where the temperature changes, that would be the best starting point.
