Failed Radiator Fan 2005 Mkiii 2.2tdci

Featured Replies

This fan has never worked, but I have only had a problem with the recent heat wave. Yes, it was annoying that the AC did not work when the car was stationary, but we dealt with it. However, it may be time to look a fixing this.

My mechanic says it needs replaced and recommended looking for 2nd hand parts as new was 320 EUR. So I am looking at my options, but I am not confident I have the right part number or fan layout. Mine has only one fan un the upper drivers side corner.

My other issue is I am living in Germany and don't speak much Deutsch. And we're only here for another year, so that is how much longer I need the car for. But perhaps with a part number, I can be sure I am getting the correct part. Here's the site I have been looking at:

http://www.autoteile.de/en/product/list/18569/Fan+radiator/V25-01-1542.html

Anything else I should be checking before I replace the whole fan and shroud? Can I just replace the fan itself? Thanks!

Anyone have any insight? It appears this fan for a 2.2 is a bit of a rare breed. I see nothing on ebay specifically for the 2.2. I wonder if the 2.0 would work? I am going to look at the local auto recycling yard today and see what they come up with. I wouldn't be at all opposed to the dual fan, if it is a plug-n-play install.

Any help is much appreciated!

Since no one else is "in the know" about this perhaps I can help someone else who might be facing the same issue.

I went to my local parts store and asked for a quote for the fan. They gave me a print-out that had some numbers on it. So I began digging into those. First was "Van Wezel 1828747". After searching for the best price I could find, I stumbled upon a website that lists other interchangeable numbers. I can't find that page again, but I have some here that might help.

Part number stamped on the shroud is 5s71-8c607-bc, the motor itself is 5s71-8c607-bd.

The number I believe landed me the correct part from a salvage yard was Ford 1331402. Interchangeable numbers according to the web are Ford 1437591, 1348023, FRIGAIR 0505.2029 VEMO V25-01-1550, & NRF 47262.

Remove and replacement wasn't horrible, but it is a tight fit. I lifted out the passenger side first , then disconnected the harness, then pulled the rest completely out. Went back in the same way, but not without some finessing and patience. It was a 45 minute job and requires only a 10mm socket and a 3" extension. Note that the studs will slide out and that may make life easier to slide it out, but I only found that out after I knocked the passenger side one out.

I am hoping that is the last time I have to do that!

Oh and for reference I paid 78 EUR for the used fan shipped to my house.

I had to replace the fan on my old mk3 as it had failed. Mine had the fan that was hard wired to the control box and expensive to buy.

I bought an older style fan and fan surround and wired it in and it worked perfectly. Mine was a 2.0 tdci
