Excessive Engine Noise 2l Tdci 55plate

Featured Replies

I have a 55 plate 2L TDCI Mondeo and in the last few weeks the engine has become considerably louder to the point where my neighbours are politely commenting....it's also getting embarrassing when stopped at traffic lights etc.

It's regularly serviced, has had a recent ford "older car summer check" which did identify that it might need a PCM Update but they didn't explain what this was and I have no idea . I have had the upper alternator pulley belt and fan belt replaced. I have been advised to replace the lower pulley belt too as this is slipping but could that explain the awful tapping/ticking sounds coming from the engine or just solve the slipping sound I'm also hearing on fire up and switch off

Has anyone else suffered excessive engine noise or have any ideas what this might be? My oil levels are fine, as is the drive, no loss of power or fuel economy that I have noticed. I've owned the car for nearly 9 years so can be sure it's been looked after and it's only got 85,000 on the clock. - I'm confused and saddened by this issue and do not want to have multiple costly things "tried" by a garage in an attempt to solve the problem i'd like to be a little informed if possible - I love this car and want to keep it going for years to come!
