I'm new to the forum so this might be repeating an old thread. When stopped with the foot brake on does the powershift drop into neutral or is it held in first gear with the clutch engaged. If not in neutral then how long is it recommended to be stopped without selecting neutral or park?

On my Fiesta Powershift if I apply the footbrake or handbrake whilst in Drive it seems to go into neutral, when the brake is released I can feel it engage gear. In the handbook it does say not to hold it on the brake in Drive for long periods, however it does not specify how long the period is.

I always apply the handbrake when stationary then put it into drive, release the brake and pull away. But someone told me that footbrake should be applied before putting it into gear - I don't know if that is correct, it seems to work OK the way I do it.

Thanks for that. I've more or less come to the same conclusion. The handbook is useless!

Supposedly it does release the clutch, and when I release the pedal of mine there is a slight hesitation as it engages but you do immediately feel the slightest bit of forward drive even before it engages - presumably this is just friction created by the oil in the gearbox. Nevertheless, it's good practice to put it into Neutral if you're stopped for more than a few seconds.
