Maintaining Low Gear In Auto

Featured Replies

2015 Mondeo 1.5 ecoboost with 6 speed auto gearbox.

When traveling down steep gradients it is sometimes an advantage to lock into a low gear.

On my new Mondeo the gear selection is prnds, and no selection for 2 or 1. The manual says to engage a low gear for "Gradient assist" press the button on the gear shift. There is no button.

Any suggestions on how to lock into a low gear.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Steve

Is this a '' powershift '' box ?

If so they behave differently to what most would know as an '' automatic '' as, in it's design & general operation it is a '' manual gearbox '' with dual clutches & computer controlled electric servos to change gears

Quite how one locks into a lower gear I have no idea but I'm sure someone on here will know

On my Fiesta Powershift there are two buttons on the gearshift. The one on the front needs to be depressed to move out of Park or into Reverse etc. The other is on the drivers side of the gearshift and lets you manually shift up or down the gears.

On my new Mondeo the gear selection is prnds, and no selection for 2

or 1. The manual says to engage a low gear for "Gradient assist" press

the button on the gear shift. There is no button.

I've just read the manual and it says

Press the button on the front of the

gearshift lever to shift to each position.

So there's the normal button to allow shifting in/out of park/reverse etc

Is the same button used so that just pressing it in 'd' engages 'gradient assist' ? seems a bit odd but maybe that's it...

if you put the gearbox into s (sport) mode can you then select whatever gear you require by the rocker button on the shifter?

This gearbox is not a powershift.

The paddles allow you to select whichever gear you wish in sport mode, but do not lock, they will simply change up when the revs increase.

operation of the button on the front of the gear shift does not work gradient assist.

I have spoken to my dealership, who have no idea, and have advised me to talk to their "Master Technician" on Wednesday.

I will pass on any update then.
