Rattling When Accelarating

Featured Replies

Hi I'm wondering if any one can help. I have a 1.8 lx Mondeo. When I start accelerating, usually after 3rd gear, I get an intermittent rattling coming from the engine. At first I thought it was one of those things but driving home tonight my engine management light came on and my might mate put his diagnostic kit on it and it says its an exhaust valve thingymajjig. I'm just wondering if the 2 are connected or one is leading to the other. Can anybody please help or had the same problem and how did they solve it? I did have the same sort of noise when I had my 1.4 Fiesta when accelerating not sure if that helps. Much obliged Andy

EGRV's don't generally rattle but the bolts that hold it on or the connections to it could be loose ?

Or the valve could be physically broken ?

What code came up on the diagnostic ?

il get the code tomorrow chief off my mate but he said the part that needs replacing is right at the front of the engine and will cost about £80. im going to get one of those diagnostic machines myself but I haven't experienced any loss of power or anything, just that damn rattling..

The rattle could be an exhaust heat shield or something similar
