Sorry but that's not an upgrade I'd considered so I'm not really in a position to comment. Pretty sure that it's been done by others so there's probably some info somewhere on the forum.

Hey guys, I decided to go for some footwell lights, but rather than making them as shown in Lenny's build thread, I bought a premade one, which I noticed has a 12V attachment to the end of them, 41DdEXbJDCL.jpg

(Sorry the pic is so large :S)

I'm wondering how I can change this from having to be plugged in to power to switching on with either the lights or with the courtesy lights, so they fade after the doors are shut. any ideas?

Chop off the connector and wire it to the bulb holder in the interior light

how would I get it up there?. I know I can run it up the frame 'arm' by the door, but how can I get it across the roof?. Or is there a easier location?

easy peasy. the lining across the front allows you to tuck the cable inside and to the light. i used a cable tie and attached my aerial cable to it and pushed it through the gap (removed the light) and then fed it through. the rest of the cable can then be tucked in neatly.

Finally got the time to install these lights. How do I remove the arms either side of the windscreen? I've tried pulling them, don't want to pull too hard incase they snap.

there's no need to remove them,

just pull out the rubber door seal;

There's plenty of gap then between the plastic panel and the body to route cables inside.

I did finally click on to this fact and have managed to start working them in. Removed my black box at the same time and I'm going to install those extra usb's I wanted. Man, you gotta love days off.

How do I get to the wiring behind the 12v socket? Dies it push out from behind? Its the illuminated one.

Why do you need access to the 12v socket? If you wire to this the footwell lights will be on with the ignition all the time..

I thought you were wiring them to the roof light?

You need to remove the centre console to access the rear of the 12V socket,

The cables plug in to the rear,

It's impossible to remove the 12V socket without lifting up the centre console,

See guide here for removal

If you look at the comment above the one you quoted, you can see I'm also adding additional usb's, which I want to run from the 12v as I want them running with ignition (satnav & phone charger)

Lenny, I haven't got this style centre console :s.. I have a smaller armrest, no cubby hole under it. Also no way of removing the bottom of the cup holder, its all one piece. Just trying to see if I can post photos from my phone on here to show you.

Figured it before you posted that, cheers though. I just started pulling bits off to see where they lead. Only needed to strip from gear stick housing. (typical man style) haha. Will take photos on re-attaching if my phone doesn't die.

no problem,

I've also installed USB power supply in glovebox to power a dual camera DVR system and Satnav when required.

I'm not replacing the centre console one, I'm using it for power to run a new wiring loom (think that's the right word) which holds dual usbs. Bit like the additional socket that I believe Stoney was making people. But instead of a socket its just usbs. I'm going to stick these by where the sat nav goes to have a small cable rather than on trapsing across my stereo.

sounds good mate,

By splicing it in to the 12v socket the USB's will be permanently live,

If piggyback fuse is used they only become live on ignition.

However the 12v sockets can be set to only become live with ignition as well by swapping the fuse location in the passenger footwell fuse board.

If I was installing; I'd have used a piggy back fuse adaptor would have been easier to access rather than 12v socket but it's done now I suppose ☺

Cheaper this way haha. I don't mind it being live all the time. I was wondering something though. If I splice the cable will it effect the power going in? I was thinking about splicing for the usbs by the steering wheel but also splicing the same place for the 3 12v & 2 usb adapter I have attached in my glove box.

Wasn't sure wether or not to remove that one in the glove box. But I stuck it down with number plate tape. That thing don't want to come off.

Another thing I wanted to maybe do is to install one of my blue lights into the glove box but ro use the same switch as the current one. Any ideas?

The USB from the 12v socket will be fine,

But the triple 12v with USB in the glovebox really should be fused if hard wiring, to prevent potential overload which would cause fire.

A piggy back adaptor would solve this or an inline fuse adaptor.

As for the light in the glovebox you can purchase sticky back led pads with small length of cable attached,

They plug in to existing light socket while sticking to the roof of the glovebox

straight swap 👌

I like your thinking. I was going to use the Led's I have left over from my footwells, but I guess I can do that haha.

Decided though, I need a garage, I'm doing the 12v socket outside under a streetlight, using my new internal lights and a torch lol.

I will take a look at them later. Just thinking again.

The 3 way in the glove box. It should be alright hard wiring it, then sticking a switch in the glove box to use as and when I need it. As i don't really need it running constantly, nor just when the ignition is on. Realistically I only need it when things are plugged into it... (which may at some point be a dashcam.)
