Inappropriate/just Plain Wrong Advert For A Ford Forum!

Featured Replies

This morning, whilst I was waiting for client to arrive at Bournemouth train station, to pass the time, I was browsing FOC from my phone, in Chrome, without logging in.

Now, unlike now in the office, I don't run and Adblockers on the phone, so I get to see the adverts I would otherwise miss.

So, there I was reading the build and project threads, as I scrolled down, up popped this ad, "Buy a Vauxhall Insignia Today!" :o

Each time I changed threads, another "Trade in your old car for the new Vauxhall Corsa" :o :o Followed by "Get £2000 off a Vauxhall when you buy a new one" :o :o :o

Don't the adservers realise this is Ford Club for Ford Enthusiasts?

they probably don't care where there adverts reach after all that's the point selling cars

True, but don't the advertisers themselves want to target their ads at an receptive audience, nowadays.

Often adverts are related to your Google searches.

Oh :o I see

But any Vauxhall searches I might have made, were for getting rid of the Astra (breakers instant quotes etc) not replacing the Focus

Having said that, all my Vauxhall scrappage searches, were not made from the phone: but in from the office PCs

Admit it its your dirty little secret isn't it?

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app

I'm sure this could constitute a permanent Forum ban for such treachery...

He's right... Something you're not telling us?

mmmm....My Vauxhall owning era was less than my Ford, BMW and Volvo owning period but greater than my Peugeot and (cough) British Leyland period, and the shortest of all was with the Jaguar XJ

Let me see, now:...

I once harboured a long-held secret desire for a Saab. This faded when GM bought Saab though

I have a freezer that's older than most members of FOC

The dog's snack tonight is the dry roasted reproductive gland of a male pig

I'm still eating last season's potatoes - only a few to go now, than I can dig up this season's

I used one of Stoney's guides to put something in the Focus yesterday - a small mod

Out of genuine interest, what is the make/model?

The reason I ask is because (on the subject of "secrets") I collect vintage appliances.

Make: Electrolux

Model: TF113A

Serial: 319-0535

Product No: 9222030

My Dad bought second-hand in 1972, I believe it was a year old at the time.

I presume you know about the chap with the large collection of washing machines. Washing machines in every room of his house, most plumbed in. I think he's on You Tube reviewing some his favourites

My main forte is vacuum cleaners, but I think I've heard of him.

I like appliances too...always found them fascinating how they work.

Prefer new ones though. :)

2nd hand in 1972!? It could be older than my Mum let alone me haha. They don't make stuff to last these days! :(

Indeed they don't.

It's funny seeing other people surprised that an appliance from the 70s is still in use and to me it is normal considering I use 40s and 50s vacuum cleaners quite regularly.

Lol, tbh I thought my 90's Henry was old enough...it's lasted longer than the shop my parents bought it from lol. There was an awesome old vacuum on Antiques Roadshow at the weekend, took two servants to operate it though so not overly practical these days haha.

You're a real sucker for hime appliances then?

At least it's a clean interest...

I'll stop lol

So, you'd be about the same age as my washing machine: whilst the freezer is on par with your Mum

My vacuum cleaner, is mere youngster compared to yours: it's only hails from the mid 1990's - an original Dyson DC01, in yellow and grey

My parents used to have 1950's Electrolux cylinder, in regular use until the start of this century, can't remember the model though.

The D-word is banned in my house. Only bagged vacuum cleaners enter this house. That said, the DC01 was the "best of the worst".

My daily cleaner is a circa 2000 Electrolux "The Boss - Plus" upright made in the USA.

Sorry to be a pain, but you mention a semi-vintage washing machine... My interest is piqued. (Yes, I'm fishing for more information).

I believe "Happy Birthday" is in order for yourself, too :)

The DC01 is indeed a better vacuum than my 'spare' DC07 Animal, whose clutch fails with regularity that makes wonder what Dyson engineers were thinking!!

My best sucker is my Vaportek VPK3500, which is a bit too new, for your interests, and is a steam vacuum rather than straight vacuum cleaner

Dysons are good. Our DC03 is 10 years old now, and whilst to not the most powerful and rather stone age now, it's still a good vacuum. We got a DC44 animal cordless in the summer so the DC03 isn't used much now. The cordless is brilliant!

Going off topic further...I have quite a few friends with washing machine and dryer collections, both new and vintage.
