Rear Suspension Bushes

Featured Replies

I took my 2012 mk4 Mondeo in for its MOT and the mechanic said the rear bushes were badly worn and needed replacing, I didn't have any symptoms of worn bushes before I took the car in but had them changed anyway to pass the MOT.

I picked the car up tonight and noticed that when I go over small bumps there is a new noise coming from the rear of the car. It sounds a bit like a muffled spanner hitting a bucket, fairly quietly. I'll try and get a recording of it and post on here as I appreciate that is not the best explanation of a sound..!

My query is, can new bushes make a noise and is there supposed to be any noise at all? I would have thought, if anything, that new bushes would mean zero noise when going over bumps?

I have tried searching for a similar topic but the results generally return people complaining of a knocking noise due to worn bushes.. But I had no noise before when I apparently had worn bushes, and with new bushes I do have a noise..?

Any help much appreciated,

Paul

No noise is the norm after bush renewal, take it back and get them to recheck all the parts they have disturbed, probably handbrake cables not clipped in properly on arms

What you describe sounds a bit like the exhaust banging on a heat shield, or something. Definitely get them to check it over, as they have probably just disturbed something in doing the work.

Thanks both - I'll give them a call tomorrow morning and get them to take it back in over the weekend - do you think it's ok to drive in the meantime?

Probably exhaust knocking on subframe
