think i've fixed it, i put the wire in started the engine, took the wire back out with the engine running seems fine now took it for a spin in the snow, no power loss no warning lights hopefully stays that way, thankyou for your help if you live near yorkshire i'll buy you a pint lol

i know, i havn't a clue what that wire is for and what it does, this is my first diesel so not too clued up on the engines

That's the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter. Without it your car will run in default mode, losing a bit of power and economy. Easy to replace but not cheap.

ahh, how come with it in it was loosing power but with it out it was driving fine?

You may think it's driving fine.

  • Author

it is driving fine, got loads of power in every gear, just had it in the snow it was 100% it's when i put that wire in the problems occured.

think i'll take a look in the mass air flow tomorrow check the wires are not dirty and give them a spray, thankyou for you're help gents greatly appreciated.

i think you will need a new mass airflow as it seems it running in default :(

  • Author

yeah maybe, i'll give it a clean hopefully solves it but it does sound like i'll need a new 1

A bad MAF can reduce power over default, so the car feels better with it unplugged. A good one will feel better than that but you haven't experienced it yet as it's been broken since you bought it lol. :)

  • the person you bought it from must of known it was broke by unplugging it
