Handbrake return Spring

Hi guys, I changed the rear discs and pads on my 2010  mondeo today and made a slight mistake. When I was removing the handbrake cable from its location I removed the spring that helps return it to its normal position. I realise now that I didn't need fm do this but my problem is that I can't get it back in place. No matter how much strength I put behind it I cannot get it to bend enough to get both ends in there correct location. Any advice or tips or tricks to get it back?
