Auto Stop/Start

Hi

I have a 2015 MkV and the stop/start system seems to be playing up. Normally when the system kicks in and turns off the engine a green symbol lights in the rev counter binnacle, recently when it malfunctions I get a yellow flashing symbol in the binnacle. The flashing yellow icon is in the same place and looks the same as the green icon apart from the flashing and yellow colour. A message on the dash also displays telling me to press the clutch to restart the engine, again not a normal feature. When the car is restarted it seems to misfire, the EML comes on and spanner symbol illuminates, the car will then not rev above 2000rpm and judders and shakes with a max speed of 30mph. So I did the tried and tested turn it off and on again and it works and all is well until the next time.

Car was in today to have it looked at but the garage says no code stored and also that the message and flashing Amber light is normal. I disagree. I've shown them pictures of the message and a video of the flashing light but they won't entertain it. I've even showed them the error code in my reader but again they won't accept it.

Anyone had this before or heard of it?

No, it's the new 1.5 160ps petrol engine.

The car has been in and they had it overnight and said they could not replicate the problem and no error had been stored despite it doing it 2 days before it went in. I asked them what I should do and they said to limp it in if I was close or get it recovered. There is no way an assist would recover it as it resets and is good as new when you remove the key and then start again as normal, I said this and they just shrugged their shoulders.

Can Ford assistance scan the second module at the roadside?

Can anyone help me?

The issue continues, ford have had it in 4 times now, they had it for a week at one point and they said they found some codes and replaced some modules but this related to the ABS and hill hold.

Any way tonight the car didn't start first time, it kind of coughed and then died, I started it again and the spanner lit up and it said see manual. It was running rough and again no power, certainly no turbo. It would do 30mph and when you took your foot off the accelerator it was as if you stepped on the brake, the nose dipped and the car wanted to stop. It sound d like it was misfiring.

My question is this;

do these cars have known issues with HT leads failing (I've heard earlier models do)

do these cars have problems with coil packs? (Again, I've heard earlier models do)

Could this be a spark plug issue?

Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated, the car is getting dumped on their forecourt on Monday while I speak to the dealer principle. I'm seriously thinking of rejecting the car.

It's a mkV 1.5l ecoboost 160bh

Cheers, Jon.

no, and no, or should i say not that im aware of, the stop start issue is a consequence of your running issue and not cause, thats for certain. have you been able to check for codes tonight ?

I keep getting the same code P164c which doesn't seem to help.

Ford say they can't see any codes, it's really frustrating.

Any ideas what would cause these symptoms? It really does sound like a misfire. I have a sound clip to show the garage as they claim they have never been able to reproduce the fault.

Thanks for your response Iantt

Took it into ford today, downloaded the engine sound clip for them, left the keys and walked away with one of the salesmans c max. Told them I don't want it back without a documented fault and fix, if not I'm going to reject it. I'm convinced it's a misfire issue that's what it sounds like.

The sales manager will phone me tomorrow and keep me updated. They even gave me a full tank of diesel and said it does not need replaced. They are doing their best to sort it but if the computer says no they just seem to send it away, no visual inspection of the elements of the engine.

UPDATE The mondeo is fixed.....apparently. They sent the sound clip along with the error code I gave them to Ford direct and Ford have said there have been a few reports of the exact same thing happening to that particular engine in the mkV. The fix is a software update that needs to be flashed to the PCM and then check all the values are correct. They are running it till Saturday, with my permission, and the I get it back. This would have all been sorted at the beginning of Jan if they had accepted my word and spoke to Ford then, I did mention that to them, and when I say mention I mean made a point of saying it several times.

I'm getting my next service for free, I said I wanted to be compensated for all the hassle and I would be happy with a free service. I thought that was quite fair of me considering the car has, over the last 5 months spent a whole month with them and I've been paying the finance company for the privilege of driving a courtesy car.
