I have recently bought a 1.6 Mk 4 Escort which has the CVH engine in it.

The person who owned the car before me thought that putting twin 40's webber carbs would be a great idea, However they don't seem to be set up right and I have decided that as the car is nearly mint and only got 36k on the clock I would rather put the carbs and inlet manifold back to standard.

One of my friends has an inlet manifold and carb off of a 1.4 sitting around. Does any one know if this would fit onto the 1.6 and if it fits would t work? The car is a 1990 mk 4 with auto choke over the manual choke.

any help????......anyone...............

Getting stroppy doesn't help.

If you didn't get a response to your first thread then that is because nobody knows.  Writing a caps lock title won't get you any more advice.

Quite right Mark.

OP sorry, I don't know the answer.

but I understand how annoying it is when asking a question and nobody answers

What would you prefer?  Five pages of "sorry, I don't know" replies?

Sorry, I don't know...

(OP - do yourself a favour and have a look at the active members...done that? Right...take note of what cars they drive...tell me what you notice...)

(HINT: Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo - the 3 most common cars driven by the most active members...NOT the Escort...)

The general consensus on this forum is not to post if you don't know the answer - it means that any answers don't get lost in a sea of "Sorry dunno" posts.

Ungrateful *insert "Removed" word here*

manifold and carb may fit but wont run correctly as the carb is jetted for 1.4, and will run lean . getting the webber carbs jetted correctly may be a better solution, and balanced .

Exactly!  I own a Peugeot 405 which is now as rare (if not more) as the MK4 Escort - so I know exactly how you feel about not getting much help (it's the same for me on the Peugeot forum), but that is because people genuinely don't know.  If they did, they would help you.

i used to know about 1980's peugoets, 104, 304,305, 504 etc lol

I'd love to get my hands on a 305, and will one day.  Right now, my aim is to get another 405 to replace mother's Nissan and then maybe a Volvo estate for practicality.

So we were both thinking the same thing then.

How about the classic "turn off and on again"?

No

I would prefer a damn answer to my question, I hate it when people don't answer, you are asking for advice yet people ignore you despite knowing how desperate you are for help, I think it is cruel that people could help but decide they can't be bothered to help basically

So if you were out and somebody was dying of a heart attack, could you perform a heart bypass to save their life?  No, because no matter how desperate they were, you cannot help when you don't have the knowledge!

People get quite rightly p*ssed off when advice is offered & not taken or acted on within a reasonable time frame & the same OP asks the same question (s) over & over & over & over & over & over again . . .  ad infinitum.

Go pay for advice if you're not happy with free advice

If you lot are talking to me then if you have something to say, say it to me, do not slag me off

I need Maf wiring fixed - So far I have bought a few inches on new wires and plug (cost £50) , tried changing colors over, still not fixed, was about to get another auto technician to look it over but now need to save to get HG replaced, again.

Head gasket was diagnosed as ''gone'', garage refuse to fix it despite me paying them £950 9 months ago to do it, though found out they only did water pump. A friend now says he can replace HG for £400 but I need to pay extra £30 for head skim. car runs fine atm, no power loss, no dramatic water loss, no smoke, no oil water mixing.

Hopefull my mpg will improve after fixing MAF problem .

Thinking now my turbo is not !Removed!, My car does not smoke and I do hear turbo sometimes, But been told my turbo oil feed pipe has a slight leak so put it down to that.

Need to replace engine mount, think it is just the bolts it needs.

I have only had this car 9 months and spent around £2200 on it already, altogether on my 4 previous cars I think I have spent over £8,000 on repairs in 4 years.

please give me some decency

Dear me, get a grip! The last thing people will want to do is offer help when you throw a strop...

I'd be surprised if you haven't been told that before, because you certainly won't make any friends acting the way you are...
