Throttle spring for a Mini. (Old type, not a BMW designer handbag.) Hook it around the rod and tie the other end to something solid with a wire, putting the minimum extension on the spring. Just enough tension to stop the rod from rattling without inhibiting its movement.

Just tried this and it worked a charm. Does anybody know if the rod could be adjusted or anything either



I've had four Ecoboosts and have never had a rattle.   My current car is a 17 plate Titanium X with 8000 miles on the clock and is so quiet that I occasionally get out without turning the engine off and wonder why I'm getting the 'door open' warning.
