How accurate is the 'miles to the next fill'

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if the 'miles to the next fill' is accurate.

Has anyone actually tried it.

I tend to fill up at the 50 mile warning tone.

But it would be good to know if I really did have what the read out showed.

I don't think its very accurate at all. When i was test driving my car for purchase i drove about 10 mile on a reading of 7 mile to empty.

There was an episode of top gear as well that it was proved not to be very accurate. I tend not to let mine run too low as i only guess it will drag all the "crap" at the bottom of the tank through.

I find my MK7 miles to empty pretty accurate, problem is of course how you drive impacts on what it says, if it says 30 miles to empty and you've been driving it well then you caine it the miles to empty drops fast. Same the other way round, its only a guide.

I find, that aside once I get below 20miles to empty it does become a bit erratic.

Personally, I never look at my fuel gage just use the miles to empty.

The miles til empty changes depending on how you drive. I once had to make a 13.7 mile journey when it had 14 miles remaining!

I did end up driving at 0 miles remaining for about half a mile, I blame all the traffic lights.

I tell you, there's nothing scarier than running on zero miles remaining and trying to hear if the engine sound ok. It' TOO quiet...

I let it go as far as 13 miles left in the tank today and I've just put a tenner in the tank until Saturday when I fill her up to go to Milton Keynes and for the family trip to Thrope Park.

Lol, i took mine so low today that it didint even say 0 miles remaining. It jus had dashes the whole way across the screen lol!

taking it to a new level

Don't trust it. I'm about 7 miles from my nearest V-Power stockist, estimated 30 mile range when I set off was down to 7 when I got there (and I wasn't heavy on the loud pedal either!). I look to fill up once I've covered about 300 to 320 miles on the trip guage.

I filled it up this morning at BP. I done Milton Keynes and back and the guage was still on full when I got home. When I last went I filled it up at tesco and it did use quite a bit. Does anybody else find tha brand name petrol lasts longer then supermarkets?

You should never run your car that low anyway, I know it's easy to but try keep on top of it. Catchs people out sooner or later, next thing you know your on the hard shoulder on M6 calling yourself a t*sser.

The way you driver you car determinds the milage you will get from fuel. That 10 mile thing will be based on alot of things that you may not put into practice.
