Replacing the cd player on an 07 MK3

Featured Replies

Hello gents,

I'm new to the forum so apologies if this has been discussed, searching for 'aftermarket cd player' tutorial yielded no results. What I'm looking for is replacing my standard 6000 Cd player in my MK3 Mondeo with an aftermarket one, as the sound is average and lacking bass. I've been told to hold off getting a sub-woofer, as a new HU would improve massively, so I'd like to start with that.

Problem is, I don't know what I need in order to get it done, as I would like to retain the steering controls as well (I've seen adaptors at various brands, 20-25gbp and the 4 removal keys), but the rest is beyond me. The size factor is not important, as long as the new one will fit and stay in place (different sizes require fascia adaptor or how does this work?)

Basically, if anyone has ever replaced his unit, I'd appreciate any input as to what I need.

Cheers.

Hmm someone might be able to help you but this is what I gathered up

Steering wheel controls cable

Then just find your headunit

Hi, can recommend this:

From the home page you can enter your type /brand & then you will get specific units

Try it

Okay, that clears a few questions, at least on the fascia side. However, I found 'steering wheel adaptors' at Halfords which look like this http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/autoleads-pc99-x50-ford-stalk-adaptor , but are a tad expensive and they have extra cables, which I'm not quite sure what they're for. So don't know which ones are best (I would assume more is better, but I have a regular 6000CD, so no dvd and other gizmos).

The site has a lot of things, but they're based in Hong Kong by the looks of it and I'm weary of waiting for a long period of time, not to mention possible faulty units. Had previous experience with cellphones for HK, not the best one to be fair. I want to get things locally so that if any issues come up, there's no hassle to get them sorted.

Already got some removing keys, now all that I need is to find the headunit and adaptors.

Much appreciated, cheers.

He guys, They have a UK-depot ( warehouse ), somewhere in London.

That's where I have my units from..

For adaptors and looms I recommend Connects2 on ebay.

If you're not sure exactly what kit you need I would give them a shout.

Wouldn't recommend Halfords for looms as the staff don't have a good enough knowledge base as to what is suitable.

If you don't want to touch ebay at least go to a specialist car audio company for guaranteed compatability.

Okay, went ahead a bought a Sony A200Ui player and the associated leads, but I'm getting no radio signal. Do I need an adaptor for the antenna as well? don't see any socket for it, so I'm guessing I need some sort of intermediary contraption for it...

Also, when I disconnected my 6000CD, I lost the code, which isn't written on the case, is there a generator for it?

V series aren't free, apparently. That's just great.

Also, I found this aerial as a radio antenna adaptor, will it do?

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stereo-fitting-accessories/autoleads-pc5-111-fakra-to-din-aerial-adaptor

The player's tuner doesn't seem to work, which makes sense, since there's nowhere to plug in the antenna..

Okay, so I've finally managed to install the whole thing. I'll do a total soon and post the whole process and required bits. It ended up costing me almost as much as the player unit to get the leads, antenna and steering wheel adaptions in place. Kinda ridiculous, but I could not settle for half measures. Replacing the unit makes a very noticeable difference, as you are able to use filter and boost the audio signal. Much nice now...

Tbc.

Haven't had time today to do a full set of pictures and such, but I did thing something that I would call a design flaw. You simply can't plug a USB stick or a USB cable into the player, for that matter, as when you shift into 3rd and 5th, it gets in the way. I guess I have to find bendable USB stick as a solution...
