Hi I have a Ford escort encore automatic 1996  ZETEC engine only done 55 k original mileage which I have owned for 12 months. Brilliant condition and love driving it. Recently though it had started to kangaroo ( not my driving honest) when I pull off from start it snatching or on slowing down and pulling away. Once on a straight run it drives perfect. I have recently had it serviced new plugs leads filter etc but The jumping continues has anyone any ideas what might be the cause. Thanks

Hi Welcome

Hi & welcome

In the service did they replace the fuel filter as this isn't standard on a service at most places, also might be clutch grabbing and slipping.

Hi thanks for the prompt response. No I had a new fuel filter fitted a couple of months ago when it started jumping. Was hoping after the service with new plugs and leads it would solve the problem unfortunately not. As it's automatic thought it might be gear box but on a straight run it runs a dream and overtaking foot down no problem.   Only when pulling off and in slow traffic it starts grabbing.

Hi,

I am guessing that a 1996 Escort engine is fuel injected, but with an cable (non-electronic) throttle. So most of my normal suggestions about throttle bodies sticking, or using diagnostics to check the operation of injectors & sensors, are not much use.

Unstable performance pulling from low revs sounds more like fuel or transmission problems than ignition, but that still leaves rather a lot of possibilities.

Really, I am adding this post to wake up the thread (they get buried very quickly here!).

If no answer, try putting it in the Escort area. Some people come & go irregularly, and you may need to keep trying for some time. If you have made progress, or have additional symptoms, please post that, it may help others, or help you.

Peter.
