Mondeo 1.8 Duratec Crank Timing

Hi

I have bought a Mondeo with a partially stripped engine. I've put Big end shells & Piston Rings in, however its time to set the timing & put the chain on etc.

I've found the plug to take out for the crank timing pin but can't find anything on the crank that the pin goes into to lock the crank.

Any help would be appreciated.

    the crank web buts up against the pin, so get no1 piston approx 45% btdc, screw in pin, then turn crank using old pulley bolt clockwise until crank stops. make sure you fit a new friction washer.

    Cheers Ian. Might be a daft question but where does the friction washer fit onto? I haven't seen a washer in the box of bits i've got.

    you need a new friction washer and crank pulley bolt, so the pulley firmly locks on to crank.

    Cheers Ian, i'm just getting back on to the engine again. thanks for the info. Sorry just to clarify, when the crank web butts up against the pin will it be just about TDC?
