They do. I still have theirs too, mind. However I offered to give it back, as soon as the arrangements for mine are in motion.

If you are rejecting the car then general rule is not to drive it, so I wouldn't take it back off them.

That's why I still have the courtesy car after 6 weeks.  I refused to drive my car, as I was minded to reject it :)

It's always good to think ahead, big companies can screw you even further into the ground if you don't do things properly. They on the other hand can do what they like

Sorry for the torture you endured when reading!

It may well be a lemon, but I am still upset that it came to having to reject it.  You form an attachment to vehicles and I have spent quite a lot of money sealing the paintwork which I probably won't get back.  Never know though - this e-mail may get some results.

I'm not really sure what would come next.  Finding something that combines the spec, the engine and performance, the look, the drive, the cost is extremely challenging.  I also want a 3 door car.  So that rules out the Mazda 2 and Skoda Fabia.  Toyota doesn't have a 'warm hatch'.  Honda Jazz is for the elderly.  Vauxhall taught me a similar lesson to Ford. VW is too pricey for the age and spec that I want.  I am currently looking at a Suzuki Swift Sport.  They seem to have a fair chunk of the kit but they have a shoe box for a boot and they aren't the best in terms of fuel economy/CO2.  The Kia RIO and Hyundai i20 only have hairdryer engines.  I could look at a ProCeed or i30, but they are in a different class of car.

So in short - I have no idea!

(Only responding now, as I just happened to be browsing the Fiesta forum and saw the new updates, didn't get any notifications that you replied...)

Not torture, it was a very interesting post to read, and I'm so sorry as a fellow Ford driver that you've had to endure such crap from them, that makes some of my awful dealings with them seem incredibly civil in comparison. There are so many content Fiesta owners on here, so seems like you've been so unlucky enough to receive one of the worst examples out there (hence branding it a lemon), but that's not to excuse Ford's disgusting attitude towards you, as they really do owe it to you to make everything right.

If you are still very keen on the Fiesta in terms of character/equipment/looks/whatever, then perhaps rejecting it and then buying another working one could be an option. Otherwise, there are loads of cars out there to choose from - Honda Civic is quite good, and they have sporty Type S/Type R 3-door models as well. I'd highly recommend them, Honda are one of the best out there when it comes to reliability.

Just avoid French cars (including the DS3) like the plague - we used to have two in our family, and both spent more time in the garage than on the road, were rubbish cars. In comparison, my Focus has only been in the garage *once* in my four and half years of ownership of it.

Thanks for the support, guys

I was half expecting to hear something today, as they would have had my e-mail for a week at the CRC (including the chief exec), 4.5 days at Trust Ford's address (including the operations director), 3.5 days at the dealer (including everyone above).  Still nothing.

Getting all rather embarrassing now.

I got bored of waiting so I called the assistant service manager at the dealership who said that it was out of his hands now. He did say that he was surprised to hear that I hadn't heard anything yet, as they'd passed it to their legal department... It's apparent that this is going to get fun.

Look what was waiting in my letterbox when I got home today. A very revealing letter from Ford's solicitors, which contains a large number of inaccuracies.  Let this be a warning to anyone considering buying one of their vehicles.  They should be ashamed of themselves for going down this route, considering that the problems are entirely of their own making.  This won't make good publicity and I encourage everyone to share this experience.  If your car goes wrong, you will not have their support in fixing it. Just a letter from the lawyer which aims to put the frighteners on you.

Yep will do. It's such a shame with some proper customer care ford could be great. It's all about the sale or service. It's weird I use to feel ashamed when going in for a warrenty job like it's this bloke again.

I read this topic and it makes me so annoyed, you paid good money for a car yet fords customer service is so horrendous. I don't know what they expect you to do, your car is clearly faulty they should be taking responsibility for this. Shocking

A very considered and well worded response Gary. Did you send it via recorded delivery? The thing that struck me most in the whole fudged up thing is the 55p stamp. Seems to be an epic fail on the part of their solicitor and if they had any intention of this contact being anything other than a 'frightener' they would have used first class mail at least. In my experience letters of this nature are usually sent by recorded mail

Second class is a sub par attempt by either a Ford representative falsifying a document, who knows franking the document would result in a clear showing of the dealership details, or, a very poor choice of idiocy by the solicitors.

Wow I ur letter to the solicitors is really good. I wonder what response u get

I agree@jeebowhite it wreaks of utter rubbish. That is not how solicitors communicate, especially if they are making time sensitive 'demands'.

Thanks guys.

Just to be clear, the letter was franked to the value of 55p. I think a second class stamp is 57p. You get a small discount for franking yourself, so this means it must have gone via second class mail.

Correction - second class is 55p. So absolutely certain this was second class frank mark. Where I work gets a discount. But then they probably sent 10,000 letters a day too!

I sent my reply via e-mail.  Will do a recorded middle of next week if I haven't heard anything.

Wow, what a powerfully worded letter! Keep us updated on the reply, I am looking forward for a reply myself haha.

Regarding the legal letter, it seems like a desperate & quick move to scare you off, like they've probably done a million times before. Most people would get worried at that point, and probably give up.

I really hope this turns out well for you in the end, I'm eagerly watching this thread.

Though after seeing first hand how Ford has treated a valuable customer like yourself, I am beginning to get less and less incentivized to replace my current Ford with another one this summer.

  • Author

Thanks :)  If it only costs them one customer, I am happy.  I was, up until very late in their 'procedures', nothing but nice and accommodating.

And if anyone is a member of the other Ford oriented forums, please feel free to share this experience there.  I don't feel it appropriate to sign up, rant and never go back! lol

I must admit I've thought that also, the general performance and support of Ford has decreased rapidly recently. Even my local dealer who have been great for years have started to disappoint me...

I haven't a clue what I would replace my car with in the future, but I think for me the time has come to consider leaving the blue oval...

Same jeebs, I've being eyeing the Honda Civic lately, lots of toys yet reasonably priced, and will have the same build quality or probably greater (than Ford).

Plus it's locally manufactured :)

I used to be a fan of the Integra and when I first passed my test often took my dad's Accord out which I always enjoyed driving. I got a wee turn in the diesel 2012 civic and was impressed with that too. With all that said I have never, not even once in my 20yr driving history set foot in a Honda garage. I always envisaged my next car to be a Kuga or possibly an Edge, I'm starting to think again now and leaning more and more towards the VAG fold, a Yeti or a Tiguan, maybe even a Q3. Having owned a car from each manufacturer I feel I know what I am getting there. It's a shame ford are being so difficult and obstinate with you @GaryPL it isn't the way I'd like to be treated after choosing ford for nearly 10years now and it looks more and more likely that this is the way it may be going. Sad times.
