Mk 5 Boot light problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys. A while ago my 2000 Fiesta Mk5 1.25 was involved in a an accident... I reversed it into a large metal bin. The type the council use.

Anyway! It smashed the window and caved the rear in 5 inches. Rather than get this proffessionally done I found a huge hammer and smashed the 5 inches of damage out, fitted a new light and managed to find a cheap Mk 4 bootlid.

When I was about to fit it, I noticed that the power transfers are different to the Mk 5. The Mk 5 boot is wired THROUGH the boot (Top to bottom), whereas the Mk 4 boot get's it's power from power transfers located at the bottom that contact with the body.

Ever since I fitted the new boot, the interior boot light it very intermittent. I managed to pull all the cables into the boot, and connect them, correctly but the only way I can turn the boot light on is to wobble the boot lid when it's open, and even then it turns off and on intermittently.

Theres nothing mentioned about the boot light in the Haynes manual, and ive been snooping about the interweb but can't find anything =[

Any Ideas?

Thanks, Pete

EDIT: I've checked the cabling to the actual light isn't loose, and sometimes it doesnt turn back off when the boots closed.

those connectors can get worn and greasy... and the wiring that goes from top of boot into top of car often breaks coz of bending all time :)

Cheers for the info mate. Dunno why I didnt think of that o_O

I'll try it at the weekend when the weathers not so bad lol

Used to be huge problem on the Citroen/Pugs that i earned my spanners with!

Had to cut them open, find like half the loom busted and begin the fixing process...

If you find a busted wire, dont just rejoin...join in a new piece of wire to extend it and give more flex :)

Hold on a second. Going to a comment I previously posted. The light (When its on) sometimes doesnt turn off when bootlid is fully closed. Is there some kinda button/sensor that tells it when its open or shut that might be at fault? o_O

just seen that meself...must be! have a good look round edge of boot where it shuts...gota be there somwhere!
