secret hole

so long as it works eh, wont be seen!!

The idea another guy here had of that very grippy rubber lining would be good I think, help the harddrive sit snug, not rattle or cause problems with the drive :)

Well i'm thinking about checking whether a USB hub would work - i have a few small ones kicking about at work.

My plan is to have a USB hard drive plugged in all the time with my music - thus no need for an ipod. But if say i havent updated the hard drive with new music and my ipod is more up to date, i can just plug the ipod into the main port (may have to unplug the USB drive, need to check when its all working)

Oh and here is a pic of what i have done - i know its messy, will tidy up a bit, but its in the secret hole so im not to fussed.

Thats my plan too, HDD for long term storage of bulk music USB stick for new music purchases etc, also so that family/mates can bring their own sticks of music.

Would be well impressive if you sussed a way of being able to do this without constantly having to unplug the HDD in the sacred hole, cos that would be a pain in the !Removed!

I suppose the best thing would be if it was to turn out that you could select between two sources using the stereo itself. However I think you are right about using a proper hub. obviously an unpowered hub..

My USB HD is covered in rubber - so wont move about anyway.

Only thing i want to change is the clip holding the secret hole door/cover

Not sure on what to use, i see some people are saying magnet, velcro or some other clip.

Has anyone changed/ordered a clip for it yet?

Lol that was me. i was talking about this sort of stuff as a liner:

However my existing HDD already has really grippy rubber on either end like this:

I would think the nice little self adhesive magnets would do the trick nicely...they basically use the same things in high end vehicles with similar cubby holes!! Cheap and easy too!

using what couple others in this topic found...

catch:

or

magnets:

personaly the magnets look the easier option to me, cut to size, don't break or wear out! :)

Does that clip on ebay actually do the job?

im not sure, i initially posted about these but i wasn't sure if they are designed to stick to each other. i thought they may be for sticking signs onto steel surfaces so not sure if the two magnetic bits will stick together?

maybe on your mk4 but not on my mk7   :P :P

he's lost his flap to the secret hole to! boggin!

Don't like that one bit

It aint too good I agree. I think that would be the only way of installing an aftermarket stereo though cos you would have to keep the old one in the dash because it controls the vehicle settings.

Hows progress on everybodys secret holes today? ^_^

Might be a silly question, but would I be able to add a USB port to my car hidden in the secret hole, so I can put a hard drive with music on in my car permanently? I don't have the bluetooth/USB option btw

if you dont already have bluetooth... this could be more difficult, do you have a 3.5mm jack input?
