Really, the reason I asked was I think the Kenwood is crap and I thought the factory unit might sound better, would anyone know who makes the ford head unit by any chance ??

I have mine in my hand and it doesn't say anything about a third party, just Ford's name.

The sound from the Ford uunit isn't appauling, but the one coming from the JVC is just so much better. Why don't you try out with a new HU?

You could always try getting a second hand unit off ebay (Ford or otherwise)....or failling that, I'm sure that there are several forum members (like Michael) who have removed the old, basic tape head units from their Mk4s and Mk5s.....I think I've got one knocking about under the stairs somewhere

I do indeed! works absolutely fine, only glitch is that it has the "rewind" button missing but it still works

Ford had a bunch of head units made by Blaupunkt a few years back (at least I was under the distinct impression!). Doesn't mean it is any good, as they will be built to spec by Ford - i.e., good, average, good etc.
