If I'm going to get a pressure washer, and perhaps use it with 'snow foam', then will any pressure washer with a detergent function suffice to get the snow foam onto the car?

Nope - you need a foam lance.

If you put snow foam in a detergent tank on the PW, you'll get foam in the tank and through the workings of the PW, but very little on the car. I also can't recommend the Karcher foam lance - get an autobrite one.

OK - so does the quality of the pressure washer matter too much? B&Q have a karcher pressure washer half-price at £29.99... will this do and then I can spend more money on the lance?! ^_^

i got one of them £35 ones from halfords the other day and its great! Comes with a detergent bottle. all i did was fill about 1/3 with car shampoo then the rest with water and it covered the car in foam. so whats the different with a foam lance?

If you have a lance, then yes, you can spend less on your washer, but remember that you get better foam with higher pressure.

Having said that, good lance and good product with cheap PW (£20 on eBay) gets this...

Not as thick as I get now, but still ok.

This is the pressure washer, there is one a little more expensive at 89.99, but it only has an extra 10bar pressure.
