F***ING SNOW!!

Featured Replies

managed to bend my track rod on the passenger side coming around a corner in the snow. back end went out followed by the front end. now the steering wheel wont sit straight and you can clearly see when you take the wheel off its bent.

its the actual rod thats bent, not the rod end. but to save further complications i think i'm going to have to replace the whole thing.

just wondering if anyone knows how much ford charge for this part and how easy it is to fit as i will be doing this myself. cannot afford to be paying ford labour this soon after christmas.

been told that is basically screws into the steering rack and its a rather easy job. can anyone shed some light onto this as i'm going to attempt it as soon as i can get the part.

Happy new year BTW!

never done one but since your car is newish you shouldnt have any problems trying to unbolt/unscrew the track rod.

you will need to get the allignment/geometry checked after doing the work though. my local garage does the '4 wheel' setup for £40 as appose to my tyre shop who does the 'tracking' for a tenner.

Fiesta will only need a two-wheel alignment though, but no doubt charged the same.

F1 Auto Centres will do 4-wheel alignment properly on ramps for £20 if you ask.

Sorry to hear bout the bump....

You may want to check the lower arm and bushes....and also have that wheel balanced.

It is fairly simple, could buy it from Ford, but local motor factors do parts that are approved of by manufacturers often, and a lot cheaper! I would get a new track rod end tho....otherwise I bet it wil need changing soon due to the bump. may aswell.

Aint that tricky, as been said, as a Mk7, should all be good to remove, will include removing the steering rack boot.

Have fun :)

hope all goes well :)

Although the fiesta only needs 2 wheel alignment, be worth a 4wheel check due to the incident with the kurb! :)

just had it all off today and cannot get the track rod off. it seems you need a special tool or a great big plummers wrench, neither of which i have. its going into my girlfriends work on monday to get done hopefully.

there dosent seem to be any damage or funny noises so hopefully its just the rod.

from my experience, never ever ever use F1 Auto Centres EVER

Go to STS Tyre Pros also trading as Stapleton’s Tyre Services. Excellent service there.

Join the club mate, hit curb 10 mph if even, started off bent track rod......needed the following - new tyre, alloy wheel refurd, track rod, track rod end, suspension arm, whishbone. 800quid that could have been well spent on the car but sure, accidents happen.

£800! i take it that was from ford? luckily i can get it done for next to nothing and its only cost me £30 so far. everything else looks ok and i've repaired both passenger side wheels myself over the last few days. i just hope the steering rack itself isnt damaged! does anyone know how i would be able to tell? theres no noises or excess play coming from it

Not good news :(

Not sure how you'd be able to assess the rack? Hopefully that'll be OK.

As for motor factors, can't see there'll be anyone doing parts for the Mk7 yet, and even if there were, fitting non genuine Ford parts may invalidate your warranty (whatever remains on major parts) and they will not be to the same quality standard. I know, i used to work in automotive components manufactuing and know Ford quality standards fairly well, amongst other companies' standards too.

Good luck with it and i hope it doesn't cost too much to get you back on the road in one straight piece asap :)

track rods tend to be machine fitted, so !Removed! tight, normally have to knocked loose with a hammer and bluntish metal chizzle, in direction of 'undo'!

But seems like with garage you will get sorted...as said above though, maybe more than meets the eye, so get it well checked :)

hope all sorted soon :)
