Box under the Mk7 driver's seat...

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Can anyone tell me what the box is that sits under the driver's seat in my Mk7 Titanium? I'm talking about box for which there is a cut out in the carpet.

I'm wondering if I can velcro my iPod to it without causing any damage to anything - now that I've realised that 'normal' iPod cables work in the mk7 as well as the Y-cable, I'd like to leave my iPod permanently in the car, hidden under the driver's seat. It will probably stay put by itself, but if I attach a velcro pad to this box and one to the iPod, then it definitely won't move

So what is it?

Off the point question, but you have used a normal USB-> Apple dock connection cable with the USB fitted and it carries the sound without the need for the 2.5 jack Ford tries to sell you?

Ohh and for what its worth, I always thought those litle boxes where for sensors/ cables in the Seat belts for accidents, Dads car has the same is had a few cables runing out of it.

When did you first notice it? Was it there before Sunday? Is it ticking?..................... :P

But seriously, my money would be on it being a ECU of some kind, most likely for the airbags (etc). If thats the case, I can't see you doing any harm to either the car or the Ipod.

Strutter - no, I've used an Apple iPod dock connector - USB lead and a 3.5mm jack - 3.5mm jack lead - they work just as well as the Ford Y-cable, in fact they're a more secure fit into the sockets. The USB alone will give you no sound, that's just the way the system is setup...

Tom - thanks, I think I'll get them velcro'd up tomorrow.

I just hope its not actually a honking great magnet then!
