ford fiesta 1.1 1998 revs high then low at iddle on its own

then sometimes stalls any ideas as to what it could be ?

Anything to do with idle speed and stalling (i.e. coming up to traffic lights) first thing I would check is the idle speed control valve. Have a search on ebay and you will see what they look like. There on the top of the engine and easy to change. If you feel like it you can take it off and take it appart and clean the insides, sometimes is all it needs, but usually a replacement job.

I would check your idle speed control valve and maybe (depending how long they have been in) renew your spark plugs at the same time!
