Hi All.

I need to source a wiring diagram for a MK7 1.6 TDCI Zetec, I want to do away with the side lights coming on every time I unlock the car, and it’s a drain on the battery even before you open the door, must be linked to a relay somewhere? Also I think the same relay must also light the dash up each time the car is unlocked. This is proving a problem as we are forgetting to switch the lights on in the dark before driving off, dash alight so sub conscience thinks lights must be on. Come-on I know I not the only one who's done this, with the back lighting of street light it's easily done.

Before you start butchering your cars wiring, consider these two points:

1. Your sidelights coming on when you unlock the car only stay on for about 10 seconds. This isn't draining the battery

2. When it's dark switch your headlights on, this is simple common sense

I've got to agree with Jonny, the sidelights when unlocking won't affect your battery at all. In fact the point of parking lights and sidelights is so you can leave them on without the engine running for hours on end. As for the dash illumination problem, just put a post-it reminder on the steering wheel hub for a month or so and before long you'll remember! Save you messing unnecessarily with your wiring.

leave it alone as you will affect the warrenty and it wont drain the battery

Or check with Ford if it is possible to get auto lights, is it just one relay (R20) and one fuse (F25) near engine, but not every car has the wiring. The lights will light on together with starting your engine ;)

I wouldn’t rely on the auto lights I have them and they are not very good on misty days when you think they should be on there often not.

Most modern cars have dash lights that stay on all the time so it may be best (and easier) to get used to looking for the light symbol on the dash.

I was not talking about auto lights that come with rain sensor. I do not have this, only a relay that turns the lights on at 50-60% power just as I start the car. It was mainly sold in Noth Europe as there it is compulsory to have lights on for whole day. To be honest, I`ve not ordered it, it just came as part of Titanium package and I`m very happy for it.

Forgetting to turn the lights on was an issue for me when I first got my Zetec. You'll get used to it pretty quickly. I now appreciate the car's interior lighting up like Clark Griswold's house at Christmas
