Guess the car

Featured Replies

Well, as per the title, guess the car  @iantt

First clue is its a 54 plate

on a side note, if anyone is looking for a low cost pry bar that one is a Neilsen branded effort. Cost me £15 and so far seems alright for the money, haven't broke it yet.

annoys me someone has put that crappy boot on with a cable tie too lol

I'm spinning this job out a little.. mot repairs. It started off as discs and pads all round then a spring, then spotted the burst boot on the ball joint. Got it all apart and found the bearing is a bit rough. Which isn't bad as i done the other side last year after the wheel very near fell off lol.

is there anything left of car after all that rust on the floor?

skoda?

Not much, I'm scared to hit it any more  If it wasn't for the fact its not residential friendly I'd have hit that ball joint with big nasty the air hammer! what a fight trying to get the studs out of the arm.

9/10 the most common car to give me grief like this one is German, particularly the vag group. I don't rate them.

yeah, we used to hate them also, always failed mot on boots, joints, arms, brakes, . emmissions were ok unsuprisingly. lol

got 50 cars to mot in the next few days and only 1 is vw. phew.

I'm sitting trying to think about what I do actually like on VW's. I guess I like the bolt on driveshafts, helps when you pull an engine and box out and don't need to split the suspension lol

ive forgotten how to use my tools.

you do more mechanical than me. lol

haha! I don't know why i bother most of the time tbh, folk don't wanna know you until they need something.

Was looking through some files on the computer there to see how many VW engine out jobs I've done. Come across this one, Renault scenic clutch failure, what a horrible car! 8 hours from start to finish.

This might actually be the first engine and box swap I ever did. Mate wanted the engine bay a different colour to the car.

Damn, too late to the thread, A3 would've been my guess though lol.  It's 14 years old tbf , a 54 plate Focus is likely to be rusty as well, especially in Scotland.  With the water leaks on the mk3 Focus' becoming more common, I do wonder if they'll even reach 10 years old before the boot floors start to rot lol.

Each to their own really, I like VAG group stuff, but of the few mates I have, they're all into French stuff and hate VAG cars and 'scene', so I go to the VAG shows on my own...in my Fords...

Do you not work as a mechanic then Stef, just do it on he side?  I always thought you worked at a garage for some reason lol.

Nice bit of German engineering for you here...can't believe this was 6 years ago already...car wasn't even 10 years old! :o

I replaced it with a 12 year old Peugeot...engine was fine, but it did have a large rusty hole where the seat belt mounted...

Rust is great, is makes everything seize in place, don't need thread lock lol. Working at the roadside or in this case on a driveway, the worst thing about older cars is when you are underneath swinging a hammer and all the crap falls on top of you lol.

That's a statement is it not Tom, hate VAG but into french cars? Man that's bold

I don't need to work at a garage Tom, I've got the contents of one at home lol. This is just a 'hobby' to me, more like an addiction or just the fact I need to get a life.
