  1. I do like (finally) getting the 623 home!! 77,000 miles, MOT until September, timing belt changed 1,000 miles ago (£500 bill present), four good tyres, great condition inside and out... Price? £180! Now that's what I call a bargain. The usual terrible quality photos, but I'll get some better ones in the morning. It drove great on the 45 miles from Inverness to home, and having an automatic (with cruise control) again makes me realise how much I had been missing since the Mercedes' death last year. The only difference between this car and the Mercedes is that this car is much more luxurious and a lot more powerful (2.3L Honda engine producing 150BHP as opposed to the 2.2L Mercedes N/A diesel which barely put out 90BHP). The best bit is that it costs no more than the 405 to insure. Direct Line originally didn't want to insure it (probably due to the power output) as I've had my licence under a year, but after "speaking to a manager" they put it through at £87 per month.

  9. Unfortunately the bodyshop who repaired my car did have a different quality level than I do. After repair I expect the car to be in exactly the same state as it was before the break in and do not accept anything less. The repainted body parts look great but other parts of the repair are below expectations. I do no longer want them to touch my car so today I agreed they supply new parts which I am going to install myself. After 1,5 week of misery it was time for something positive today. This evening I installed the new 18 Inch wheels. After the steel winter wheels were removed I cleaned the brakes and all mating faces and applied a fresh layer of red heat resistant paint onto the brake calipers. Iam very happy with the result. These wheels look very nice on a Focus MK3.

  11. I knew what you meant Chris. For me a brand new car (even one worth millions) is about as interesting as a piece of toast, but that's just me!! Everybody is different, and as unfortunate as it is, we all live according to our bank balances. You weren't at all bragging about your father's new car, but simply mentioning it as it is part of your life. Our society is often that these days that people are made to feel like they should feel guilty for being fortunate financially, and I don't agree. You don't get money for nothing, and I'm sure your father wouldn't be where he is if he didn't make prudent choices and work hard. I'm flat broke most of the time, and have little hope of ever being "well off" in any sense, but that's my life, and I choose to live it as best as I can, or else what is the point in anything?

  12. I like rich folks cars. My previous employer bought a brand new car every year. Bentleys and Rollers. His sons bought porche (forgot how to spell it lol) lambos beemer etc. The top car park was like a high class showroom.

  14. I think you misinterpreted my post, what i actually meant was cheap cars can equally be as cool/interesting (however you want to describe them) as more expensive ones. Jamie's fleet is a prime example! I probably would've bought an older car but wasn't allowed, so there you go. I personally don't agree with many of my dad's decisions but then again I'm not him, so can't dictate how he spends his money. I was going to post some pictures of his car when it arrives next month, not to show off but in case anyone was interested, after all, we're all here because we like cars! But if you don't think it's appropriate, I won't.

  18. Fek me £180? That's unreal for such a car. Well done. Look after it and it'll look after you. 1st car to have 6x9's as standard.

  19. The Focus MK2/MK2.5 does not have a conventional speed sensor. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 the vehicle speed is calculated/measured by the ABS or IVD pump and digitally (CANbus) communicated to the instrument cluster. I personally expect the instrument cluster or the ABS or IVD pump to be the cause of the problem.

  20. I do unfortunately... Mostly for 405 parts which I don't really need but am tempted to buy "in advance" of them breaking on mine just in case they go obsolete when I do need them! Ah, the joys of having an old Peugeot!!

  22. It should be enough to just electrically disconnect it, IE remove the plug. The MAF itself offers very little resistance to the airflow, and is best physically left in place. The ECU will detect it is disconnected, and use other ways to calculate the airflow, form the MAP & rpm & Inlet air temperature. If the MAF was faulty, this will give better results. For cleaning delicate and electronic parts, I usually use alcohol, either Meths, or Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA). These do nor atack plastics or rubbers, and dry with little or no residue. But I expect contact cleaner is similar, and will do ok. I think the MoT should be ok. On my car (1.8), the EGR shuts above 2500 rpm, and the MoT smoke test is done at high rpm. So providing the valve is not jamming open (it does not look like it is), then it should be ok.

  23. Hi, yesterday I noticed I was leaking oil. Originally assumed it was engine oil but looking underneath the car I think its pretty much coming from a gearbox sensor,,, Unfortunately I don't know which sensor is it (check manual and haynes), its near the front of the car, on the gear box (more to the passenger side)

  26. Thought I'd sort the rubbing strips out today, ready for when it goes to paint. :D Before, plastic had gone brittle and chrome tarnished. Before Had to peel off the old double sided tape from the back. Peel off the plastic, then clean up and put on the 12mm wide red Coach line. :) Not perfect but not too bad either lol

  32. Thanks for your response Peter. I have ordered the Haynes manual with the hope that it may offer some assistance too. The car has only done 40k, probably part of the problem... When I spoke to ford, two different garages, they refused to look into the service bulletin for the update that may help the issue. They also say they have never heard of any faulty batch of injectors.

  34. Yeah, its 265 on the rear, my conversion is perfectly setup now, slapping on 280s on the rear will bring too much brake bias to the rear, the danger being you end up locking the rears too early. The carrier is also different for the 280s, the 265 carrier is a lot smaller

  37. I have to say I didn't think it looked normal but that was pure guess work on my part and probably it being a red graph made it look sinister and yes you are right it is the valve position. I will give it a clean in due course. As ever thanks for the helpful info. Do you think this issue will affect MOT result if not rectified before then? Also Peter, I intend to clean or disconnect the MAF first as has been suggested. If I go for the clean, is it good enough to use Halfords Electrical contact cleaner? It has good reviews....... If I am to run the car for a bit first with the MAF completely disconnected; Do I just unscrew the sensor and leave a gap in the pipes? Or do i remove the section of pipe the MAF is fitted too? If this is the case do the other pipes stretch to fill the gap? Hope that makes sense.......

  38. I quite like the tea infuser, but more for the cleverness than what it is as such. We have Titanic Tea in Belfast (and titanic chippies, titanic pubs, etc) - we are quite light hearted about the whole thing here now (she was fine when she left here you know). Much more so than we would have been when I was younger, I suppose the time since the tragedy is a factor. Mind you, we are doing quite well from the tourism now! Neither product in the original post is in good taste tbh, but thats the world we live in! People will buy anything!

  41. Could just try rubbing it out (with rubber/eraser)? Might work on the finger prints as well as wax/polish stains, I've just tried it out on mine and it works a treat on the bits where I've got wax on the plastics by accident :) I found this solution on Youtube (see vids below)

  42. I agree dashcams would be much better than black boxes. Seen too many times the black box has gone wrong - such as saying they were on a different road to what they was, with a different speed limit, and the driver has been penalised for no reason. Anyway, the 3rd party's insurance are now saying they want to reassess liability as they have received new information. They were happy there driver was at fault before and he's admitted liability. I think it's because he failed to tell them I hit a car I front after he hit me and pushed me into them. Just a bit of a surprise when before I thought it was going to be more straight forward

  44. I've got continental sport contact 5's on mine, even when I accidentally wheel spin I've not set mine off unless I absolutely plant my foot into the floor. Seems that the MK3.5 holds like brown stuff. Even in the pouring rain I can't feel any kind of slippage nor have I managed to set it off. I know on my old MK2.5, hitting large puddles in the dark would set it off. Hit a patch of mud once in it, and trust me, it works a charm when it does kick in.

  45. "It does indeed appear that newer Fiesta's may be coming with 15" spare wheels, perhaps this is a cost saving measure now the 14" wheeled models are discontinued (logic being its cheaper to increase the orders of 15" tyres than bring in 14" tyres just for spares now the Studio spec is gone, and would also use up any steel wheels left over from the Style trim)?" I believe they are still doing 14" wheel Fiestas new. I believe all of the Econetic Diesels still have 175/65/14 even if Zetec and Titanium trim levels. The econetic is the higher mpg version and I believe one of the things which helps that (although must be marginal) is the smaller narrower tyres.

  47. Just to go against the grain here but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. That might make me a bad person I don't know, it takes a lot to offend me. When I see this I just think of the mechanical sinking of the Titanic and not the lives lost and ruined. There is a sketch about being offended that always makes me laugh...
