  1. Evening all, I said a couple of weeks ago I was looking for an ST and well I've just today purchased this little beauty ST-2 Colin's performance CP300 pack - big mouth air intake, forge air intake with pippercross filter, mongoose cat back, and flash tune Lowered 20mm, US spec grill, and front splitter not had much done but plenty more to do :) so I guess I better start a project thread again if anyone saw my fiesta I had a few years back

  2. Hi everyone New member here from Manchester After having fords all through my late teens and early twenties, xr2's, rs turbos and then sapphire cosworths... I changed to be and then Audi and have had them for years. Now 37 and needed a bigger family car than an s3 8l. A friend at work had a focus st what he bought 6 years ago, high mileage but full ford service history, belts and clutch changed recently, not a mechanical guy so if anything needed he just took it to ford. Anyway as he lives 30 miles from work, it was costing him a fortune in fuel, so it has been sat on his drive for nearly a year. Picked it up from him for a bargain price. Probably 2-3k cheaper than any similar car for sale at the moment. I can see why it's been sat as i wouldn't do nearly 70 miles a day in it, I'd be bankrupt 😂😂. Just getting back into the ford scene now, loving it a lot, stupid fast and faultless for now

  4. I knew what you meant Chris. For me a brand new car (even one worth millions) is about as interesting as a piece of toast, but that's just me!! Everybody is different, and as unfortunate as it is, we all live according to our bank balances. You weren't at all bragging about your father's new car, but simply mentioning it as it is part of your life. Our society is often that these days that people are made to feel like they should feel guilty for being fortunate financially, and I don't agree. You don't get money for nothing, and I'm sure your father wouldn't be where he is if he didn't make prudent choices and work hard. I'm flat broke most of the time, and have little hope of ever being "well off" in any sense, but that's my life, and I choose to live it as best as I can, or else what is the point in anything?

  5. Hi Peter. I have the 4 speed auto, no issues other than the dash display sometimes sticking on a flashing 'P' symbol instead of 'D', 'R' or 'N' or whichever gear has been manually selected. I've had the car nearly a year and the display issue doesn't seem to impact on the function of the gearbox in any way at all. Mine's a mk2.5 with the red LED dash. Otherwise, it does what it should without drama. I've read here on the forum that technically this box is 3 speed + overdrive but hey, it works! It's apparently a fairly old design which has been upgraded, strengthened and improved over the years, much like the 1.6 petrol engine in my car. Gear changes are reasonably smooth and happen more-or-less when I expect them to. Like any box, auto or otherwise, changes are smoother after it's warmed up. Kick-down isn't very responsive, don't rely on it for a chancy overtake, give it 5 seconds notice. But auto Focus drivers don't even contemplate 'chancy' overtakes, eh..? I love it, and much prefer automatics over manuals any day. All that unnecessary flapping about of arms and legs! I've got a theory that the engines in automatics are less likely to have been thrashed. a) auto drivers are less inclined to thrash it in the first place and b) auto boxes have various fail-safes designed in to stop the engine over-revving/labouring, even when manual change has been selected. Just a theory... Go for it, you won't regret it

  6. Looks absolutely stunning! Loving the US spec grill! One thing I can't help but notice is the bonnet... that gap between it and the bumper seems a little bit big! Looks almost like its not shut properly!

  7. Yes, me too. I prefer the old 1970s/80s saloon cars, such as the Ford Granada, Crown Victoria, LTD etc... Would love to get my hands on one, but like you I can't see it ever happening!! Even if it did, I'd need a second job just to put petrol in it as they average around 15-20MPG at best.

  8. I am rather OCD about my seat position. I like it in the highest possible setting, as I hate looking "over" the steering wheel, and have the backrest in a fairly bolt upright position as that is how I sit in general. I'm not really a "sloucher". It also has to be as far back as it safely can be from the steering wheel or else I feel cramped and worry that in an accident the closer you are to the air bag, the more damage it will cause than prevent. That proved to be very prudent when I had the accident in my Mercedes, as due to the fact I was far back from the steering wheel, the air bag protected me but did not actually hit my body on detonation. My mother sits with her face practically pressed against the windscreen, which irritates the crap out of me.

  9. Drilling them out does work, only a problem if your not confident with a drill. You are not drilling the caliper material you are only drilling the bleed screw. After all, the company who now takes your old caliper isn't about to throw it in the bin for a snapped bleed screw. Next time I've got a caliper with a broken bleed screw I'll do a guide or video to show how. Normally I find if bleed screws haven't been opened in a long time they can be tricky. A bit of patience and skill can get them to open without snapping though. Watch out with those pressure bleeders, on cars with concentric slave cylinders they can be an issue. I had only ever been warned by someone who fits only clutches/gearboxes for a living that they can damage the seals. Then it happened to me one day even at a very low pressure! The clutch bled perfectly fine, 2 weeks later it was back in for another bleed, this happened a couple more times before putting it down to a damaged seal. Only ever vacuum bleed now!

  10. A cone air filter will give you the sound of the turbo spooling up and sucking the air in. Thing with a BOV is it sounds absolutely [emoji90] when you are in slow moving traffic lol plus, making a slowish car sound fast just means you can hear more for longer so add a remap to the sound mods and you're getting somewhere. If you are going for a bigger exhaust the steer clear of the terrible bean can ones and get one that doesn't drone to loudly at motorway speed. Most importantly do what you want to do and what makes you happy, it's your car and no one else has to like it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  19. I too prefer auto transmission cars. I have run 3 MK2s 1.6 petrols with the 4 speed torque converter auto with no problems at all. 2 of them reached 130,000 miles and the one I sold at this mileage was still going strong. I currently run the other two, one for me and the other for Mrs ScaniaPBman. I had considered a 2 L petrol auto but it has a Ford PowerShift six-speed dual clutch semi automatic gearbox which comes with a bad reputation for reliability so I would not recommend this to you. See the Wikipedia comment here further down under the heading of Controversy and copied here. Ford has faced class action lawsuits in the United States,[7] Australia[8] and Canada[9] over the PowerShift gearbox as being defective and potentially dangerous in the Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta and Ford EcoSport. The lawsuits allege that the PowerShift gearbox "continue to experience the transmission defect, including, but not limited to, bucking, kicking, jerking, harsh engagement, and delayed acceleration and lurching." Best of luck, ScaniaPBman.

  24. 2011 models will have the newer ecoboost engines as well as the old 1.6 Naturally Aspirated, from what I can gather the 1.6 has less problems but on a larger scale the 1.0 is still not bad or unreliable by any means. The 1.0 has £30 road tax opposed to £130 on the 1.6, personally I'd choose the 1.0 Ecoboost as I'm assuming you won't be hammering it everywhere as that seems to be when problems come up for a few people.

  25. That's a real shame brake hoses are not expensive calipers are about £130 for new, £50ish second hand, as far as welding goes it depends on the size but in my expierience instead of looking for a automotive welder you could look for an engineering firm as they tend to be much cheaper and do the same job, my grandad does this when his car needs welding. You can get the panel colour matched where the welds are easy enough to do yourself with a kit for about £30 all in. £80 to get a shop to do it so still not bad. It all comes down to budget 2008-2011 will be fine and will likely serve you very well for a long time, a 2012 model will cost more but are better fuel economy and not to mention newer so will cost less for the first 3 maybe 4 years of ownership. As far as engine reliability goes they all seem pretty solid, in 2012 models I'd say if you're not bothered about power 1.6 naturally aspirated (Non-Turbo) but if you want more power 1.0 Ecoboost but will cost a lot more to buy usually. Hang in there as other members on this forum should be able to give you much more detailed information.

  26. I'd recommend the Pioneer AVH5800DAB but don't know if you have a Halfords discount card because it brings the price down from £399 to £339 But still too much, have a look on Car Audio Centre, you can get a cheapish one and get a new Fascia plate for your car, really good place, I got my Fascia from there but Stereo from Halfords. https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/category.asp?m=&c=2730&brandfilter=&features=&sort_by_price=ASC&pageItem=12

  33. I think there is a balance to be found, like in most things. Im all for modding, but not to ridiculous levels. Such as the 1.0l? Corsa that passes my house that has been modded to try make it sound like a WRC Subaru or something. Except it doesn't (especially with it wooshing every 2 seconds as it goes over speed bumps due to what I assume is one of those fake blow off valves), and sounds as ridiculous as a car like that making such noises looks! Theres only so much you can do with what you have before it sounds false. You can get quite a nice exhaust note from a custom stainless exhaust. Not as expensive as you'd think either. Whatever you do you are always going to be restricted by the fact you have a small turbo diesel.

  35. I feel a little embarrassed to admit this but... I'd not put the bulbs in correctly 🙈 I pushed the bulb into the plug before fitting into the headlight, Finally getting around to fitting main beam and side lights I thought I'd have a look to see if the bulbs were seated correctly and noticed a little tab for the bulbs to sit in, so put the bulb in first this time. Checked tonight and hey presto all good 👍🏼

  39. Unfortunately the bodyshop who repaired my car did have a different quality level than I do. After repair I expect the car to be in exactly the same state as it was before the break in and do not accept anything less. The repainted body parts look great but other parts of the repair are below expectations. I do no longer want them to touch my car so today I agreed they supply new parts which I am going to install myself. After 1,5 week of misery it was time for something positive today. This evening I installed the new 18 Inch wheels. After the steel winter wheels were removed I cleaned the brakes and all mating faces and applied a fresh layer of red heat resistant paint onto the brake calipers. Iam very happy with the result. These wheels look very nice on a Focus MK3.
