As an Officer myself I can't comment on their procedures as they do vary by force however the speed cameras in the cars can pick you out from over half a mile away (can't divulge the actual technical specs). Traffic cops are known for being 'keen' though and you'll never win an argument with them as they know traffic laws inside out. The law is changing this month whereby the 10% leeway is being dismissed so be aware. Also please don't tar all of us with the same brush, I'm not looking for a knighthood, just a honest days wage like everyone else. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk4 points

The dome at the base of the windscreen between the vents is the sunlight sensor for the auto climate control. It measures the strength of the sun and the CC will adjust the fan speed and air direction accordingly whilst also taking into consideration the temp you have set. Many people do not know what the dome is for, someone said to me recently they thought it was a compass for the sat nav.3 points

Bonnet lock isn't hard to remove just ease tue 2 platis clips apart n it pulls out. Will make sence once u r looking ar it. make sure you dont allow it to drop down once youve freed it from the upper grill as the weight can pull it n disconnect it from the bodwen cable.2 points

Yea that's the plan. Although i still have a few things I'd like to do/get for the car now. I'll be wrapping it over the Easter break on my own time then I'll prob get the wheels done in panther black. Other thing I've been thinking about is just getting the standard back box modified for a mock dual exit and eventually some nice gel badges to tie it all together. Sure don't ya have fine looking car as it is. The only part of the mk3 I don't like is the front grills( some people don't like the open fish mouth of the mk2.5) but the rest of the car as standard looks nice and you done a great job modding yours. I would wait until next year to get the mk3 st when the mk4 is out. I am the same myself. I only buy cars when I have the amount for it in my Bank Account.2 points

Interesting point about the MK4. i suspect it'll be too expensive for me to jump into a brand new. I prefer to buy my cars outright than finance them. Hopefully with the MK4 coming out the MK3s will drop in price a good bit. Right now im looking at about 13k for the right ST3 Estate.2 points

Hello to all, I bought my first focus at the weekend and thought I'd introduce myself. The car is a 2005 1.6 petrol zetec climate. I like to use forums to aid myself and others with car troubles/queries and look forward to being a part of the foc!1 point

it's good you spotted it now. if not the split would probably have got worse and let in loads of dirt/water and ruined the CV joint itself. Alas, fitting a new one is not a 5 minute job and the labour is much more than the part. Unless you go for one of these which do not need the drive shaft disconnecting to fit it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Easy-Fit-System-New-Universal-Split-Driveshaft-CV-Joint-Boot-Gaiter-Kit-x-1-/191761038306?hash=item2ca5d93be2:g:tKQAAOSw3KFWcW~9 most people would say these split gaiters (which you glue the side up on) are bodging it1 point

Poor show! That said, as long as the owner is happy with it and it isn't a listed building, then that is legal.1 point

Don't think you get that option with roadside ticket from an officer. Only for speed traps.1 point

Maybe get yourself a stainless steel exhaust and an induction kit to drown the road noise out 😉1 point

aye, there be a general chit chat thread else where, mods will probably move this as its not really a Focus specific thread. As for the job, too many hours, too little pay and increasingly more resolved in believing most people in the world are utterly stupid. I think that probably sums up just about everyone's job regardless of whatever it is they do :D1 point

Just replying to this in case somebody finds this thread after a search. Our problem turned out to be moisture inside the ecu, cracked it open and there was a very clear white water mark where it had got wet and dried. Gave it a bath and a brush over with some isopropyl alcohol and it's starting perfectly now. Happy days :) Being able to plug in a computer and get all the problems read out for you only works if the part you are plugging into works properly itself! :)1 point

I can understand your view is tainted and sadly with experience like those it's easy to see why. I would write to the police and let it go to court, it may be expensive to a degree but you might find the case disappears...? Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk1 point

I think you should wait until the mk4 Focus comes out next year which will lead to the mk3 been heavily discounted. Sure if the mk4 is a much better car which I will expect it to be you could get that instead. I was going to get a normal mk3 myself in the summer but with the new car coming next year I would of been cursing myself for not waiting.1 point

Smart choice. Really. Admitedly, it would be so much fun to drive the ST, but since you're saving up for another ST, you get there anyway. I drove ST estate (even the diesel/automatic one) and it was sooo much fun to drive, it just went whereever I pointed it to and the sound was amazing! It's much quieter inside than the MK2 (which you already know since you now have the MK3), but the engine sound is just exactly where you want it to be...I don't know if that makes any sense, lol, but you just hear it when you are expected to hear it, at a volume you're expected to hear it... So what I wanted to say is that you don't have to beat yourself up for missing out on the ST, the MK3 ST will make up for it plenty eventually1 point

I chickened out! I didn't go to see the car lol i just sat thinking about it and come to the conclusion that if i went to drive it i would return home cursing the car that i have for being so slow lol I also don't want to just 'settle' for any ST. So im going to save a bitta cash and wait for the ST3 Estate. That is a dream car of mine so id be better to wait. Im perfectly contented with the car i have though. It gets heads turning everywhere actually. I had a good laugh today when two fiestas full of lads nearly collided trying to croon their necks for a better look lol Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk1 point

drive slower, slipstream trucks, leave earlier to avoid traffic, avoid braking at all costs, carpool, reduce unnecessary weight in car (spare wheel) apply tape to all body panel shut lines turn off climate control turn off radio tape up 75% of the radiator grill use lower viscosity oil in engine only ever have the fuel tank at 25% max over inflate your tires get larger diameter wheels get thinner width wheels use part worn tires remove all noise insulation from interior panels disconnect power steering pump remove wing mirrors and replace with cameras lower the roof by 3 inches cover rear wheel arches with sheet aluminium mount a rear spoiler upside down to create upforce turn off engine when stopped turn off engine when idling and slowing down to a stop crank starter motor when pulling away from stationary for a kers boost replace all glass with plastic when filling up pick up the premium filler nozzle and tip out the few millilters of fuel into your tank, put it back and fill up with regular fill up at night or mornings replace all exterior lights with LED replace all body panels with composite materials replace steel exhaust with titanium1 point

I do like realising I haven't had an energy drink or cup of coffee for over 2 weeks! I've still been consuming caffeine through soft drinks and tea, but at a much reduced rate to before. Hopefully by the time I go back to work I can start using caffeine for energy boosts rather than just to feel normal.1 point

I swapped from diesel to petrol a week and a half ago, not long enough I know to form a proper opinion but my tuppence worth anyway. My previous car a 02 focus ghia 1.8 tdi I had since new, was reliable as heck for the best part 14 years, a new clutch fitted 16 months ago after 80000 mls, a new battery installed last month and it is still running on the original exhaust that it came out of the factory with. No rust on the bodywork and engine although a bit noisier and rattly these days still starts first turn of the key so all in all one of the most reliable cars I've had in 50 yrs driving. It was time for a change of car for me and being a Scotsman and tight fisted I wanted a car with no road tax so I decided on a 1.0l fiesta ecoboost, the dealer's offer on my old car was insulting so I gave it away to my daughter as she couldn't afford a car at the moment. The fiesta ecoboost performs well enough for me, acceleration is feels as nippy as the focus was and fuel consumption is better than the focus, it sits at 65-70mph quite comfortably on motorway. I don't go into the city much by car, parking is horrendous, I just take the bus (free bus pass😀). I have no intention of modding or customising, the bonus for me is no road tax to the government😆. I hope I don't regret the swap1 point

Do like being able to use the facilities of my previous employer to fix 2 punctures i found last night after i finished work. They didn't have anyone spare to do them so said my overalls are still here and i can diy. .1 point

Not to mention ships!! (MARPOL Annex 6 if anyone is interested) Technically a lot of ships already run on electricity - it's just generated by chuff-off big diesel engines Don't get me started on wind powered ships...Rule 12 (IRPCS) is a pain in the ar...mpit As for the original question about swapping diesel for petrol - sell the car and buy a petrol. Swapping the engine, whilst possible, is going to be far more difficult and expensive. You'd need to change so much (right down to the filler nozzle) that you would need a donor car anyway.1 point

Thanks guys!! Appreciate the advice, a few friends were saying I was mad to attempt it but I'm stubborn like that So lessons learnt: regular rest stops, eat pasties, pee every 20 mins, look longingly at cars with cruise control, invent car games to relieve the boredom, pray to the motorway Gods that there are no accidents en route and make sure the hotel has a cold glass of something ready the second I arrive! Got it1 point

Hi Matt I dont think you will notice any power increase tbh but, it wont hurt occasionally as it has more cleaning additives than standard unleaded. BP ultimate/Shell V power/Tesco Momentum are the ones to use. It will help clean the valves and injectors. so you may see a small decrease in fuel use and smoother power delivery Jamie1 point

Pretty much the lowest octane i've run in mine is 97 ron apart from a couple of months ago when all I could find between Southampton and Poole was 95 ron. I was on 20 miles range so pretty much a full tank of 95 and I definitely felt the difference. I know some people aren't convinced that performance fuels make much difference but I can definitely feel when it's 95 and not 99. Sent from my SM-G930F1 point

Wow I'd never pay 13p extra per litre for my motion lotion, I'm tight AF, it would have to give me 10mpg extra for me to buy it, at the end of the day my supermarket petrol still gets me to 70 mph also.1 point
