  1. On behalf of the forum and it's managers, administration, and excellent (:d) moderation staff I wish to apologise for the inconvenience of the drain on your bank balance/partners nerves. We are aware that the forum may become addictive and intend to place all future posts into a plain wrapper and hide them away in a cupboard. All future packaging will prominently feature images of Ford affectionado's feverishly scanning eBay for parts and drivers drooling maniacally at enticing how to guides. Once again we apologise for the fact that we are currently the number one Ford forum on the web and vow that we will never ever ever change. ;)

  2. ....you're gonna cost me!!! :) :) :) Had the car a few weeks now and already I've made a list. Things I HAVE to get... 1. Two new tyres for the front(will put new ones on back and put back ones on front though) Sorted ;) 2. Service kit ie oil, air, fuel filters etc 3. New wiper blades all round esp the back! 4. Mudflaps. 5. Get spare key. Things I WANT... 1. Upgraded stereo. Only got bog-standard 6000CD unit with no AUX in! Don't know whether to go for another Ford unit or after market double-din or a single-din unit. Any pics of single-din with the adapter kit fitted would be appreciated ;) 2. Mist jets. 3. Clear lenses for all three rear lights as well as a second reversing light. 4. Extra power supplies for the rear. Three boys with PSPs, DSs etc. Anyone put one in the back somewhere? I was thinking in the centre console above the wee pocket thingy 5. Rear footwell lighting. Done the front one thanks to this forum but now have no light in the boot due to robbing the bulb :) 6. Heater control k n o b s replaced with the newer funkier ones as recommended here. And probably many other things I cant think of right now. How many of them I get done will depend on available funds and SWMBO not finding out ;) I was going to upload a pic of the car but our upload speeds are dire just now due to, apparently a break in the sub-sea cable somewhere out in the North Sea so here's a link to the Facebook page of the garage that sold it to the person we bought it from. It's now got an extra 10k on it but we got it for nearly half the price though. Not sure how they got off with advertising the fact that it's got air-con and a heated windscreen though https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=285022404844057&set=a.162205727125726.41341.162202757126023&type=1&theater

  4. Hi Kevin, I've installed a single-din head unit in my Focus, with a face-place adaptor. See the link below for pictures (scroll to the bottom) http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/28302-face-plate-for-single-din-stereo/?p=156091 The thread also includes part numbers for the fitting kit, and the wiring loom that links to the Focus steering controls

  6. hi lenny no problems m8, with regards to the slam panel i don't think there's any difference between the rs and standard 1.6, i wonder if there is a cut out in the lower part of the airbox for the secondary induction hole, just like the hole on the side of the air filter cover? out of interest does that k&n kit come with a filter or just the cover? edit, dont know if you know this but he suggested if you remove the airbox, remove the lid and filter then pull the back up first then the front, as it fits onto rubber mounts.

  9. Keep us posted on your experience with the Avon tyres Lenny. Are they the Zz3? Read good things about them. They were sadly out of my price range and yesterday got 4 Federal SS595 205/50/17 on my car. Today drove about 100 miles from Tullamore to Dublin, motorway mostly and dry. Very happy with them. No more horrible vibration at the wheel and lower road noise. Great grip in the dry. When you getting the new alloy wheels on the car?

  10. Avon are ok but I'd never put anything else but Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2 on my car now having tried quite a few different ones. Have a read around at http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk for real world opinions on a variety of cars. >Goodyear asymmetric 2 results< >Avon ZZ3 results< £102.50 each from >Camskill< Then pay a local tyre fitter (I get mine done at ATS for a £10 for as many as I take in..lol) to fit them.

  11. Excellent post FOCA ! I for one I did not realize there were so many different ways and outcomes that tuning boxes offer! I guess I have one of the cheaper ones (£59) and it does fit to the common rail sensor, I do know it is a digital one as I specifically asked the question as per your prompt to do so. I have noticed today that because of the extra power/torque when I am changing up then when I get into fifth and eventually sixth on occasion then I seem to need less throttle to keep it at that speed.....I guess what I am saying is my foot is not pressed down nearly as much when I get into the upper gears and infact in fifth gear now on a flat road my foot is hardly pressing the accelerator and now only needs a very slight press to overtake etc. I did notice something slightly different this morning though and that was the sound of the injectors were a bit louder, perhaps they sounded a little bit more clattery (the tdci noise) however 2 miles down the road when warmed up properly everything sounded normal again, maybe the injectors dont like the extra fuel until warm?? Are the injectors in the 150bhp version the same as the 130bhp? p.s. it was awesomely freezing cold this morning so it could have been just that!? cheers :)

  12. have used Avon summer tyres in the past (cannot remember what they were though) but i use Avon winter tyres (ice touring ST) and have done for a couple of years - although i appreciate your probably looking for summer tyres... had no problems with either and both were/are very grippy, low noise and good life span too. I rate Avons quite high and also cost wise they are much better priced than michelins. We tend to stay clear of goodyears as I have come across a few that are out of shape and making terrible road noise. a 225/40/18 ZZ3 should cost around £100 fitted, thats roughly what my local place takes for them (£97 to be exact)

  13. it was basically like this, if you remove the parts in red, then the dual airbox lid would finish at the blue line

  14. Old lights... New lights... Also recieved paint for all my plastics too! Will pull them all off, create my custom lower grill and paint the lot next week.

  15. I use Avon ZZ3, I find them very grippy and have noticed minimal wear in 6 months of having them on my car. They were recommended to me by one of our works mechanics and they are also used on many of our response cars. Can't fault them at all.

  16. Mine picks up where you left it from. So if you're on the USB it will continue with USB or Bluetooth etc

  17. Agree with Tony, the Heater control valve is usually a suspect on the Ka. They tend to stick either open or shut.

  18. rarely worked on KA's, but seem to remember they suffered problems with the heater valve...sure somebody on here can give details with that. failing that, thermostat and a good flush of the matrix.

  19. Mostly, this is nonsense - or little bits of information about completely different types of tuning boxes and forum "rumours" mixed together Tuning box type # 1 - IAT tuning box The signal from the Intake Air Temprature sensor is modified so that the ECU "thinks" it is cold, (or colder than it is) and makes the engine run richer, simple/ works well (to an extent) with early petrol NA or turbocharged non cat cars, can contaminate cats on modern petrol cars with cats, works on diesels/ turbodiesels but there are better techniques - this is the only type of box where temprature is part of the control (ie - "its cold outside - increase fuel") - this may be a resistor of the correct value Tuning box type # 2 Diesel common rail pressure boost type tuning box - Connects between the common rail pressure sensor and ECU, increases fuel pressure by modifiing the sensor signal so it reads LOWER than it actually is, ECU automatically compensates, so a larger amount of fuel is injected per cycle, exept the ECU "thinks" the same amount of fuel was injected as before the tuning box was added Tuning box type #3 MAF sensor type- In a nutshell the MAF sensor measures the amount of air going into the engine, although it may be pressure and temprature compensated its function is to measure the amount of air (Mass Air Flow) - (turbo-diesel)The tuning box connects between the MAF sensor and the ECU, the signal is modified so that the MAF is measuring more air than it actually is, the ECU squirts more diesel in to compensate, this can produce a with a significant power and torque gain as the extra fuel boosts the energy in the turbine, which has a knock-on effect on the compressor, although peak boost pressure is controlled by the actuator (so the absolute peak boost pressure is theoretically the same as before) the boost comes in sooner, and the turbo spools quicker, with more boost across the entire powerband >>so the boost is changed INDIRECTLY with this type of tuning box. Tuning box type #4 - Digital microprossesor multi channel programmable tuning box with multiple maps and direct control of the electronic actuator. the title says it all really, this is a realatively sophisticated box, effectively a second ECU, takes over several sensor signals, etc this type has direct control of the turbo boost pressure, (engines with electronic actuators, obviously) There are many different variations of these, including, "passive" resistor boxes, active analog boxes, digital, digital programmable with multiple maps, multi- channel digital etc etc My (turbodiesel) car runs very cool (about 75degrees) if it ran hotter i would be happier (and i would get a better MPG too, apparently) There is a school of thought that says increasing the power+ torque of an engine (ie- fitting a tuning box) REDUCES the stress on the engine, as it does not have to be worked so hard, to achieve the same result

  23. if the rs filter does fit in the current airbox i don't see why cant drill/punch a hole in the side of the air filter, how is the dual air feed different to your pic at the bottom of page 4? edit: are you saying that the grey piping running under the black corregated pipe with jubilee clip supply air into the airbox under the filter? that would be using the short straight piece you can see in the pic above?

  24. ok im hoping they will have an rs air filter and maybe the lid, but as it bank holiday he wont have access to parts (shop not open), yeh im takng my sony up anyway for some cheeky shots of the RS :D so ill ask
