  1. As I say good luck and lets hope you never have an accident, however that does sort of highlight the issue somewhat these days, people want to know their loved one is safe because of airbags and safety features, none of them can make someone drive safely or at the right speed for the conditions etc, they can certainly help in the case of an accident and even save lives, but it is easier in my opinion to learn in a car without all the safety features in cars these days as people can learn how to control a car properly without expecting various ECU's to intervene. Sorry if it sounds like I am being preachy but I learn't to drive 20 years ago in cars that did not even have power steering let alone ABS/EBD/TC etc etc. I wish the test would be changed so people are taught to drive properly in the real world and taught on a skid pan etc as people would be able to react to a situation much better, I also believe the test should be made a lot harder as people can pass a test that are dangerous and should not be on the road and yet they are given a licence. The test is merely the minimum required standard to get your licence. Anyway I am trying to not go off on a tangent and not doing very well at it lol Nice motor anyway.

  2. Congratulations, however one small word of advice. It amazes me how many people buy a new or nearly new car for their first car, whether you can afford to or not isn't the question. But statistically due to inexperience in the first year of driving you are more likely to be involved in a crash and or to write a car off. This can be a very expensive lesson to learn especially if the car is on finance and you don't have GAP insurance. I have known people buy a pretty new/new car and had it written off and left paying finance on car they don;t have any more, not to mention a high insurance cost that is cancelled when the company pay out, which you still have to pay for if in instalments, you also need to find the money for a new car and new insurance on top of that. You only really start learning how to drive once you have passed your test, driving lessons only teach so much. Personally myself I would always suggest new drivers buy an older car for at least the first year until they have a bit of real world driving experience, just my opinion of course. Having said that I hope the new car serves you well and you enjoy it and hope you are not one of those statistics.

  6. The belt is rated for 10 years at least I've never seen a belt deteriorate before that time unless mileage is high or its contaminated. I'd replace year 8-9 you're wasting money if you replace every 3-4 years just due to age and I've been a fully qualified mechanic for 20 years

  9. the thing I like about the green cotton filter is that I haven't had to replace it at all, with the millage I do I'm changing the filter several times a year, after July the savings ive made have paid for the filter. in saying that, I'm not sure id bother if I got a new car, but fo now I might consider getting one of the ones with the hole in the end or I might just do a mod on the airbox for a bit more noise.

  13. I've finally done everything I wanted to the front of the car. I'm quite pleased with the outcome if I may say so myself! If anybody has similar ideas and wants any advice on any of the mods on the front (grills, fog light surrounds, bonnet lip, eyelids) I'd be happy to help.

  14. I must say it us unusual to be honest, never had an exhaust hanger break on any car I have ever owned. It can't be the hangers just breaking surely something must be causing them to fail but what I have no idea off hand. I know eventually they will perish and break but usually they take a long time to do so. Stumped for ideas.

  16. Just remember you need to declare things like the grille and spoiler to your insurance. Mud flaps are normally considered accessories so is OK unless it is someone like admiral.

  19. A word of warning. Advisories aren't always right. Some years ago I had an advisory for play in the track rod end. It had done 200,000 miles so not unexpected. Went out and bought a new one then got the wheel off. Nothing, no play that I could find. Put the wheel back on again. The car went to the scrap yard 4 years later with the track rod end in the glove box having passed 3 further MOT's without comment. Get confirmation that your bushes are bad before you go any further. If you go to a garage with an advisory they will happily replace a good part and take your money for doing so. Synical? Me? Never! 20. It depends how much driving you have done leading up to passing your test. The more the better. I ended up driving my mums car to sixth form after passing my test as she didn't use it very often and it was the car I learnt in. That was only about 5yrs old iirc. The important thing is just to give yourself lots of time to think and react. Most accidents are as a result of people driving too fast or too close and not paying attention. The 1.0 focus is a great car, although I personally would have found it too big to be my first car.

  21. If you need to change the filter every 6 months you'll probably need to clean an aftermarket one even more. They have a lower filtering capacity and an exponential increase in "clogging" due to significantly less surface area. It's in the link I posted. Reducing intake restrictions can still help with responsiveness. Also noise depending on the model, like the mk2/2.5 snorkel. I'd be looking at an ST airbox to add an extra intake pipe to the box if it was me. That said everyone has their opinion on this. But I'd wager you only notice the difference with an aftermarket filter when it very first goes in due to it being completely clean. Reducing restrictions should be a permanent benefit.

  22. You don't actually need a new airbag, just a new airbag cover, the airbag itself is the same underneath.

  23. Very pretty i must say. I'm waiting for my new focus to finally be delivered to the dealers. Not too long to go now :P Dealer could ring at any moment. I was exactly like you when i was coming up to 17 last august. I passed my theory test on my 17th birthday :P passed driving test last november and ordered my new focus on the 16th of march. Latest possible delivery date is on the 21st of may. the suspense is killing me haha. Good luck with all your revision, tests and driving. I hope to see you at ford fair :P

  24. I agree with this, the air filter isn't usually the issue, its more about the intake system and other restrictions.

  25. Wow, great find! I know from my personal experience that you'll learn much quicker and have more motivation (as if you need any extra!) when you have your own car parked outside. Ironically £1,500 is the same amount I was quoted for my 405, which I was fairly happy with. Well, not happy, but you know what I mean I'm looking forward to seeing more information on the Focus, and hopefully you'll pass your test ASAP so you can fully enjoy the car. Will you get experience driving it with your Mum/Dad?

  26. Not sure where 90% came from, there's an awful lot of ally engine blocks around now... 1.4 TU in the Peugeots is a good example, you must have an old one for it to be cast! Just done the HG on a 1999 one with an ally block. Worst HG failure I'd ever seen lol. Anyway, I wouldn't skim the block, not even sure that's a common practice as I haven't seen it done, but the head will probably need at least a light skim, be about £50ish.

  28. Thanks! Haha I know I've been waiting for a long time! Don't worry, I did! Cheapest was Tesco at £1,516 for the first year, not too bad for a new driver! Can't wait now to get on the road!

  33. There is no synchro on reverse gear for the B5 gearbox fitted to the Fiesta. Make sure you are at a complete standstill and not moving forwards at all. Give it a few secs with the clutch down and if it still won't go in put it in neutral, release and disengage the clutch then try again. You soon get used to feeling when it has and hasn't gone in and adjusting accordingly.

  34. Common problem, nothing wrong. Mine slips out now and again (Usually when your trying to do something quickly/parallel park) and you just hear the big grinding noise. To try and avoid it, stop completely before putting it into reverse - some people have said that putting it into 4th then into reverse will sometimes help it to stay in gear

  37. That'll be brilliant. If you can post part numbers or photos of what else I will need that'll be a big help.

  38. Think you may need a small wiring harness, unless its in steering wheel already, as you need to connect the existing buttons on airbag part to it .got old wiring somewhere to show what I mean, will photo and post up. After all wired in , you need focuus software and enable it in the car configuration.

  39. Nice find there, but what surprises me is a) The Mustang didn't park in the nice empty side of the carpark b) You didn't park in the nice empty side of the carpark (and between 2 cars) When I park in Tesco I'm in the corner and look for spaces on both sides lol.

  40. 2016-04-02 Bus Lane Lorry Audi driver gets annoyed at the little car that stops before indicating (my pet hate too). But then a Polish Lorry decided to go through a Bus Lane, Bus Lane must mean something else in Polish, there is a camera and he will be looked at, but I doubt he will be traced and receive a fine.

  43. 2016-03-19 Slow Sod with No Indicator Skills This Dual-Carriage road I go down has 2 types of people, those who plod down it and those who like to get down it. This Fiat pulls in front of me without indicating or judging my speed (or not looking at all), (Edited Out) They failed to indicate right on the roundabout too. They failed to get going in a 40mph Zone in the outside lane and I was cautious not to undertake someone who only looks ahead, and I judged them almost right when they swing left on to the lines, forcing me to brake to avoid them (again).
