  2. Oh really ? I used to use tapatalk or whatever it's called.... my my my, I'm not up to date with the times... On the plus side, I barked at vodafone earlier today and they've cut my mobile bills in half and added an extra gb in data.... so I guess I like that!

  3. Hey all. There seems to be loads of broken guides, questions with a few answers etc in regards to this, and seeing as I lurk a lot I thought it's about time I gave something back. Here's my guide to removing pre facelift clocks, and replacing them with facelifts! Basically, we're going from the green ones on the left, to the nice new facelift clocks on the right. If anybodies interested, I did this on a Focus 1.6 (100) petrol Sport, 2007 pfl. REQUIREMENTS: 2 Keys (I've read that people have done this with less than two but ForScan REFUSED to complete one of the final steps for me with one) Your vehicle MUST NOT be keyless ForScan Extended License (Click here for ForScan Download and here for extended license. Extended license is free for two months, but you need to sign up to forums) ELMConfig (Can be found here) Modified ELM327 Cable able to work on both speed CANBUS networks (Like this one here, although I've used a cheaper version and it works, but this one is 100%) AutoKeyProg account (Completely free, needed to get code to program keys. Their site is here, just be careful as you can only do a few codes a day) Facelift Clocks, but you NEED to buy ones with a lower mileage than your car. Otherwise, you may have issues, but probably just a higher mileage reading. A Torx Screwdriver (Not sure on size, but same screws as the ones behind stereo, glovebox etc) AND time, although if I did this again it'd take 15~ mins. Step 1: Go and install ELMConfig & ForScan. It's best to sort your extended license out with ForScan now so you can breeze through the whole thing. Once these are set up, we're ready to go. Get in your car and hook up the cable to the OBD port. Open up ELMconfig, click HEC on the left, and then Configuration on the top tabs. You need to save HEC Page 1 & 2 pages of settings. Also at this point note down your current mileage and keep it safe. Step 2: Now once you have your current settings and mileage, you can actually swap the clocks. Turn the ignition off, and remove them. They are quite simple to change, just pull the cover from behind the steering wheel off, and undo the two screws. You may need to ease them out from the top with a flathead screwdriver, and then do the swap. Step 3: Once the new clocks are in, go back to ELMconfig (close it and reopen), and go back to the HEC menu, then Configuration again. Write your old settings back to the new clocks. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ON PAGE 1, AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT, YOU ENABLE HEC LEVEL 2/3, AND SELECT THE CLOCK OPTION. Failure to do that can mess the clocks. Also ENSURE that obvious settings, like engine, are set correctly. A quick side note that cost me an hour: The clocks I brought were from a keyless vehicle. I got stuck at programming keys for an hour because the clocks were still configured for keyless. To correct this, and it's a good idea to check this anyway,is to go to HEC Configuration Page 2, and make sure in the HEC Level 2/3 box that the bottom option is Standard PATS (Focus Facelift Level 2/3) Step 4: These are the most important steps, as this is where you programme your keys and sync the new cluster to the powertrain! Once you've done that the clocks are fully configured. They should work with ignition on, light up, let you go through menus, but the car won't start. This is fine. We need to now go on ForScan (Extended License IS REQUIRED NOW). I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THE ORIGINAL TUTORIAL HERE AS IT GOES INTO MUCH MORE DETAIL! On my Focus, it said it wasn't sure if the key was programmed and to check the counter. It did successfully do both my keys, so that was all good. Once you've programmed two keys, you can sync the new cluster to the powertrain control module. Again, read ForScan's own documentation for this: This is ForScan's guide. You need to do "Module Initialisation" to sync the cluster Step 5: You're technically now done! At this point, the car should start and be happy. You can now follow James Simpson's brilliant guide on how to enable and disable cluster functions. Mine had washer fluid sensor, which I physically don't have, so had to turn that off, and also the annoying reverse alarm. Have a play about, as there is a hell of a lot you can enable with these clocks, especially if you still have the stock head unit in the car. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CORRECT YOUR MILEAGE AT THIS POINT. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING, THAT APART FROM BEING MORALLY WRONG, GETTING CAUGHT SELLING THE CAR WITH MISLEADING MILEAGE IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE, AND YOU'RE LIKELY TO GET IN TROUBLE IF YOUR MILEAGE HAS DROPPED SINCE YOUR LAST MOT. To do this, go back on ELMConfig, go to HEC, then Procedures. You can now change the mileage to your original. DO NOT MESS THIS UP AS YOU CAN ONLY GO UP! That's all guys :) Any feedback, extra info or corrections would be appreciated. I would personally HIGHLY recommend doing this as it looks a hell of a lot smarter. Also there is a facelift clock with a bigger display that can support sat nav and a better display quality, but these are really rare.

  7. Pfft...IDI drivers! I took a cold start video of the Focus yesterday at -2c, thought there might be some 'drama' at that temp after having not used it for 2 days and only doing 2 miles the day before that...but nope, it started immediately however some nob had left the auto wipers on so they scraped across the screen on startup and ruined the video audio! Lights as well!! Who are you? Lol, welcome back Ian! Viewing the site on a phone browser is still pretty awkward tbh! And that virus/malware is still on there occasionally.

  10. Well I think I've found the culprit. I forgot that the bulb holders I had weren't the standard black ones. I had gotten open backed ones for the HIDs at the time, that's what I had been using. I switched them out to the stock ones and the bulbs are now seated a lot better. I can see now that the passenger side bulb is facing lower than the driver side. Driver side looks to be a bit high too but it's getting sorted for sure tomorrow so happy days.

  12. Good luck doing this one. There are so many complex sensors on a MK2 engine and computers that control it I doubt you'll be able to achieve it I'm afraid. If it can be done i'll eat my shoe, but as cars get newer they require so much more than just some fuel and a spark!

  16. I think that I have finally fixed it. Replaced EGR valve and has been running ok for 4 Days now. I had already replaced this in April, so didn't really consider it. but ran out of ideas, so was not much left. The 1st EGR was from ebay, so I suppose that will teach me to buy decent parts in the future. It did not actually look too clogged up, but was obviously stuck open. Stu

  17. It shouldn't mess up the allignment again, so you'll be fine, but you have to check for yourself if the bulbs were brighter or not...after doing some light research on the subject, I found out that the brightness of the Hypers is only at about 750-800lm, compared to standard stock bulb at about 1200-1300lm and with the more powerful ones at about 1500lm! Considering this, I currently have my eye on Philips' White Visions, which should be at very white-ish 4200-4300K with the power of 1500 lumens, so I hope to get the light output as well as the white-ish colour. Shame, I have one unopened box of Hypers left and one another completely good set of GE's Megalight Ultras - but they are very yellow-ish compared to other bulbs (Nightbreakers for example)...

  20. If you were to add up time, hassle and parts....then no it isn't possible. Theoretically it could be done but as nearly every Mk1 is worth less than £1,000 these days it's not economical. Also, why downgrade the car. You don't specify which Diesel you have in the MK1. If it is the 1.8 TDCi (115) then the only models in the range quicker were the ST170 and RS. Even then the ST170 was slower in gear at speed. Get the diesel chipped and you're sorted.

  26. Hi Dave, StreetKa has the same engine as SportKa, 1.6 Duratec, instead the standard 1.3 Ka one. The gears are much shorter, which is fun around the town, but can be annoying on the motorway. StreetKa also lower then standard Ka, suspension is quite hard. The back end is wider , this gives a very nice gokart feeling. It is very good fun to slide with it on corners and wet roundabouts. StreetKa has a long list of common faults, give a good look over before you buy any. Parts are cheap and can save the labour if you a little bit in to mechanical stuff.

  28. Lol,no mate what it was i was always confused on the 1.6 ST Ecoboost engine as i knew the 1 litre was a complete engine with 3 cylinder and Turbo and i knew the 1.6 was a 4 pot engine but didn't know if the 1.6 Ecoboost was a complete new engine like the 1 litre but now i know its just the same block as mine. As for the Turbo a few months ago i read something on here about a 1 litre with no Turbo what it would be like as its a 3 pot 1litre car so just asking what would the 1.6 be like but as Alex said it would be around 125ps which is close to mine so its the Turbo that makes the different on the 1.6 and a few tweaks as still a 'Sigma'.

  35. Hi Kimo, I had exactly the same problem with my StreetKa. It started to eat the coolant and after 5 miles journey the engine was overheating. My heat control valve gave up first and after the expansion tank exploded. AA told possible head gasket. One of the local service sorted out, it needed new thermostat (it was dead stuck) and thermostat housing. Also mine one had problem with the fan relay as well. I would also check out the water pump and flush out the system just in case. The parts are available from eBay for peanuts. Not a big investment, I recommend to change the valve and the complete thermostat for starter. Also check your engine fun is kicks in.

I think I'm on my 4th this year? and this one also has rubbish memory, so I have no FOC app... and I've been so busy that sitting down on my laptop to chill is quite rare.... I do like my thrown together at the last minute tea, Tesco finest steak burgers with thinly sliced romanesco and a big dollop of mayonnaise Molly decided she wanted some burger too, and kept trying to pull one off my plate Yet when I gave her piece, she sniffed it, played with it and went back to her cushion. In the vain of being amusing rather I a true like, Molly seems to have taken voyeurism as far as anyone using any of the loos is corncerned. 45. I mounted mine in the number plate light, and added an LED bulb to the other side to match the colour. Works flawlessly and pre aligned to show a small portion of the bumper too for reference. Edit: eBay Link not sure if this is just for mk 2.5. This one does have the built in distance lines, with the bumper in view as the red.

  48. I do like the 405 running again!! My hands are cut up and covered in oil, and my knees are in agony, but SHE RUNS!!! And thankfully the only problem was the glow plugs, which were complately sooted up and incapable of providing any heat. As you can see from the pictures, I only got three out because plug number 1 (behind the fuel pump) was completely seized and there wasn't enough room to get it freed up. Thankfully three new Bosch plugs is more than enough to start the engine easily.

  49. On the Focus MK2/Mk2.5 with manual gearbox the throttle response can easily be improved by changing the "Autotransmission" setting to "Sport" using ELMconfig. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 the throttle pedal is connected directly to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is basically the gateway that converts the analog throttle pedal signal to a digital CANbus signal which is distributed to the PCM. On all automatic gearbox versions the "Autotransmission" setting changes both the response of the gearbox and the throttle. However this setting is also a known hack to improve the throttle response on all manual gearbox versions.
