  1. I do like taking Pipper for her first extended stroll, up to Wimborne, then along the river Stour, to Cowgrove (which today lacked the huge crowd of cows that are normally there - perhaps they all being milked at the point we passed). We then went up the Roman road, through Kingston Lacy estate and on to Badbury Rings. where Pipper introduced herself to a pair of Rotties (brother and sister) and three unrelated Standard Poodles. We returned a slightly different route, eventually meeting up with and following the river Allen back into Wimborne. Here's some Pipper is now having a post walk snooze beneath my chair, using both her cuddly haggis and my jeans as a pillow Pipper watching as I pick up her lead, 5 hours ago, before we set out. Pipper, requesting non-stop stroking whilst I'm typing one handed Pipper, watching her bowl about to touch down on the carpet Another snooze, this time after tea

  3. Hi. Since getting my 1.6 auto, I have been utterly confused as to what engine I've got. Ford Etis says I've got a 2010 1.6L Duratec 16v PFI (100ps) Sigma. Wiki then throws the spanner in the works (so to speak) telling me that one (Zetec) was developed from the other or something. Anyway FWIW I have a 1.6 (as above, Zetec derived or not) 4 speed auto and I love it. I have always been a fan of automatics; all that flapping about of arms and legs to get a motor from A to B just seems so antiquated somehow! That said, I have over the years driven more manuals that autos though. Anyway, as said, I love mine. I've read elsewhere on here that technically it's a 3 speed + overdrive box but, to use a motoring journo's well-worn cliché, it behaves smoothly and without drama. It's not as clever or as smooth as the 5 speed Jatco Tiptronic in my sadly-departed mk3 Mondeo '54 plate 2L TDCi despite being a much newer car. It can occasionally get caught out where a sudden change is needed, for example on a road I regularly travel, where a downhill, a bend at the bottom followed a steep uphill with a bend at the top can sometimes catch it in the wrong gear but flipping it into manual for a quick(er) change often helps things along. Kickdown works but don't expect any excitement... Mostly though I let it do its 'thang' in its own sweet way. Left to its own devices gear changes mostly happen virtually unnoticed and at the right time. As Incontro says above, it's nippy around town and is quick off the mark at roundabouts. It'll cruise happily at legal speeds and beyond (I'm told ) but getting past that middle-lane hog can require some forethought when in competition with the perpetually impatient Audi/Merc/BMW outside lane jacket-on-a-hanger monopoly. Most of my driving is local rural and I average about 37 mpg. I'm not, at 65, a boy racer (and the bathos/pathos of mid-life crisis is ancient history) but neither am I an archetypal old man driver (I hope!) My 1.6L Whatever its denomination gets me about smoothly and relatively quietly with gentle oomph available via kickdown or manual selection. To repeat myself, and as an OAP I'm allowed to, I love mine. I don't think you'll be disappointed

  10. Thanks for the replies. That was my thought. I'm guessing it won't make it any worse. Even if it doesn't cure the problem it will fend off having to change the pump later.

  11. So after almost two years of having no sound in my Focus, I finally bit the bullet and decided to have a crack at getting the audio issues sorted! Initially I had a mobile auto electrician diagnose the vehicle and he decided the stock speakers were blown, so I took it upon my self to fit some new ones! I purchased a set of 6.5" coaxials from Amazon for £17 and set to taking the door card off. I drilled out the rivets hold the old cones in place, sawed off the old speakers and got the gorilla glue handy to reuse the old housing. After this dried I rewired the speakers, using the existing component lead and reattached to the door, a quick test and, success!! We have sound!! Pop riveted the housing back in, whacked the door card back on and, with less than 1mm clearance, the speakers sit perfectly!. Coupled with my new bluetooth/fm receiver I can blare the tunes once more! Small job, but proud all the same!

  13. Update on my issues. Disconnected maf plug and car is running great, great is an understatement, the power increase is off the scale, nothing like before, hope ecu is not making this happen as temporary

  14. Yeah I can't wait. It's actually for my wife but I think I'm more excited than she is! The long(er) term plan, once/if any novelty etc has worn off, is to consider a Superchips remap to push it up to the claimed 140bhp/245nm mark just for that extra bit of extra poke.

  17. i've been a dog owner all my adult life and my experiences are ; pedigrees are much more likely to have health problems , usually genetically linked , than cross breeds whom tend to be a bit more resilient to many illnesses. insurance premiums go up substantially with the dogs age. they are lots of levels of cover and many policy exclusions a good vet will let you pay in installments for expensive treatment. whether insurance is right for you will be a balanced assessment on the above factors. my current dog (a cross breed ) i didnt bother , my previous dog ( a labrador ) i had insurance until she was 9 or 10 then it was getting pricey so stopped the cover , she lived till 14 in the end. hope this helps

  21. I really don't like the sides dinners past two days, So today I finished working day 6 and commenced some DIY in the home, The wife offered to go to Tesco and purchase two cooked pizza's. she arrived back 20 minutes later with two raw pizzas which cost the same price as cooked no difference. And proceeds to contribute to the household electricity consumption by cooking the pizzas which were supposed to be cooked at home of purchase rather than just asking the person in Tesco to cook them. when I question the status of the situation she said the woman making them didn't ask if i wanted them cooked so I didn't tell her I wanted them cooked 😦 this is the second incident of wasting expenditure this month following the food in diswasher wrecking the pump incident which occurred at the start of the month 😧 I work six day weeks and fund everything, in work I achieve goals and get results if i didn't I wouldn't be there atall. When you devote six days a week to work and contribute everything you can to the extent that you can't physically do anything more and you rely on an individual to be competent in carrying out fairly simple household tasks in return. it's uncomfortable to say the least. It's not looking good good for 2017 😅

  38. Thanks for the replies everyone, and apologies for the silence on my part - must've forgotten to tick the notifications box! It does seem like something of a non-issue (obviously not for those that suffer it) given that the numbers of reports still seems very low compared to the number of engines sold. As you've said Keith it does seem to be more of a Focus issue (wonder why?). I am also inclined to be somewhat more forgiving for an engine that has been designed from the ground-up as not amount of pre-production testing will uncover every potential issue, particular if those issues are down to individual components here and there. Rich, yes I am indeed about to buy a 1L and I must admit that this issue has been the only point of concern against what otherwise seems to be a car with nothing but praise aimed at it.

  39. The blue MK1 is technically my mother's car. I bought it but she uses it regularly, so I decided to buy the Ghia for myself so that she can have the other one exclusively. So no, I can't use both at the same time, but between my mother and I we can. Plus I want to cut down on using the 405 so much due to its increasing age and fragility, so if I can use the Focus for at least 50% of my driving, that will help.

  40. I have one, what year are we talking about? Mine is a 2009 (with the 4 speed torque converter gearbox) - although it's far from fast, it is very nippy around town, so you can pull out quite quick from roundabouts. At higher speeds, it's not as nippy, but if you aren't afraid of putting your foot down, you can still overtake even fast moving traffic. It's been rock solid reliable though (knock wood). Handles like a beaut too - extremely fun to chuck around B roads. All in all very happy with mine.

  43. Absolutely, best to not attempt to go all the way the way through in my opinion, just in case you damage the holes. The rivet gun I picked up was £7 from Amazon, but I've seen one on the CPC website for just under 3 quid... Just ensure you have the right size rivets!

  44. 2 years without tunes in your car, how did you cope? I need something to keep me entertained and to drown out the constant moan and whine from the NS portion of the car. I had wanted to do a speaker upgrade on my last car. I'm no stranger to audio builds and have no difficulty with wires and stuff but I have always been too afraid to drill out reverts and then try to replace them again. I should really watch a YouTube video or something but whenever I go on the site before I know it it's 3 am and I'm watching a monkey riding on e back of a pig! Oh, nearly forgot if anyone was trying to diagnose the previously mentioned whine, it's ok I know what it is. It's my wife. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  46. You don't need to remove a hose... (Although you can if you want to) Look underneath the nearside of the car, under the radiator. You'll see a plastic Philips head bleed screw. Undo it and drain the coolant out. Make sure the expansion tank lid is off. Then tighten the screw up again. Insert new coolant, then undo screw enough to let air out. Tighten screw Start engine. With heater set to hot & leave to idle for a few minutes. Keep an eye on the coolant level and top up as necesarry. Once the car is slightly warm raise the revs to 2k for 5 minutes, keeping an eye on the coolant level Be sure to tighten the bleed screw as tight as possible or the o ring won't seal!

  47. Clean the OE badge, warm the gel badge up and stick it on, to remove it just peel it off. It won't affect the OE badge at all.

  48. The change isnt major in the steering, it just adds or releases resistance to the steering wheel. For example, on all occassions and settings, you could still easily move the wheel single handed, and with little effort, however the sport setting means that it does a little less work, so you feel a little more resistance in the moving of the wheel, but again its still light in comparison to no power steering. Comfort gives maximum support. It leaves the minimum effort from you to turn the wheel. Dont worry, its not a case that sport mode kills all power steering and your left steering a tank!

  49. Well I rang them last night and to be honest, they were ok with me. He said he will take it to his autoelectrician to rule out the alternator first (there is also a bad earth somewhere, radio and lights flicker off/on at random) then replace whatever needs replacing. Problem is, my warranty runs out in 8 days but i go ireland on the ferry in 6 days so its either risk giving him the car in the hope he can solve it before I go away or do it after i get back but that would mean im over the warranty period. Will need something in writing off him if its being done after i get back so i have it in black n white that he'll honour the warranty. Nevertheless, a good result. :)
    1 point
  50. Ask him to provide his feedback in writing, and advise in advance that you will be seeking a second opinion. If there are any faults diagnosed with the vehicle that you will be returning it to him and expect it to be honored under warranty as per the Sale of Goods act.
