  2. Just got car back to day after having a new wing fitted. Yes, I know it makes no economic sense whatsoever in a 19 year old car, but every other panel on her is so good, it really did let her down. To cut costs, I asked them not to bother blending in to next panel. I honestly can't tell the difference, the match is excellent! Well chuffed...

  4. This comes up everyday unfortunately. The regular members here are well aware. Ford cannot replace a wet belt engine with a chain engine, it had more done to it than just the timing chain. The whole head is reversed. Plus the timing chain engine still has a wet belt for the oil pump. We’re no longer convinced the timing chain version will be much more reliable.

  5. If it were me (and I've been in that position), I would seek out the services of a local independent auto locksmith who will have the appropriate equipment to supply and program a working key fob. It will cost more than buying an AliExpress one, but at least you know it will work and be stress free. I would budget about €80 or so...

  6. I don't know the answer to your question but if you just had an advisory for light misting then I personally would not change it unless it obviously was not doing its job. I had light misting on one of mine, I cleaned it and it has not shown any signs of leaking since and that was a long time ago.

  8. Yes, do yourself a favour and forget about the 'feature'. Ford only introduced it to get through some tighter emissions certification. Nothing more than a gimmick, and destroying the planet by getting folk to throw out perfectly serviceable batteries in the vain hope of getting it to work. Other opinions are available...

  10. While out for a walk this morning, I was passed by an Audi RS 3 at the point he was changing down with a cacophony of pops, fa*rts and bangs. I suspected naughty remap and pipe, but the thing I liked was the registration: R53YOB! Very appropriate!😀

  11. I'm glad I sold my focus and fiesta ecoboom. Not even got a vacuum pump , or an engine. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  12. Regardless of the cause, the engine stopping while driving causing the servo to lose pressure is not the same thing as the engine carrying on running but the vacuum getting blocked. That’s all my point was. I made this clear the conversation moved on. You don’t need to come in to every thread and try stoke things up again with your immovable opinion.

  15. That kind of attitude isn't really warranted. There is an expansive level of help offered daily on this forum. It could simply be that no one who has read your post has any significant advice to offer. It's a forum of enthusiastic owners, not necessarily a team of specific experts on every single problem encountered by a car owner. Be patient, you may come across some good advice soon...

  19. The Mk3 was released in 2010. So 2010 to 2012 could be either Mk2.5 or Mk3. Both very different cars. The DPF issues of the early Mk2.5's were largely solved from 2009 onwards by fitting a coated DPF instead of the old Eolys additive type. Most reliable is definitely the 1.6 petrol. However they cost more to fuel and tax, and are fairly slow in a Focus without much torque, so it depends on what your priorities really are. Only you can decide that. The cambelt is overdue on all 1.6 petrol and diesels of that age, so I would expect to see at least one belt change on any of them. Though there's no harm in buying one without belt history as long as you have it changed yourself as soon as possible. I'd say 80-120k is about right for mileage on a car of that age, with petrols being at the lower end and diesels at the higher end.

  20. Final update.....the problem is fixed. In a nutshell, the original battery drain was the hardwire dashcam. The 'new' battery that was then purchased wasn't, as it transpired, as new as we thought. It would not hold a charge overnight, which then led us to believe we had a secondary source of parasitic drain. We proved that by charging up the 'old' battery, putting that on the car which, by morning was still around 12v. Do the same with a 24 hour charged 'new' battery, next morning, completely dead, down to less than 3v. Replacement battery, dashcam hardwire removed, car is now fine. Thanks for all the help. Cheers.

  23. As Alex says, brake servo failure can occur for various reasons. In cases where there is a link to the wet belt, I believe the issue is particles from a disintegrating wet belt causing failure of the vacuum pump, hence no servo assistance. Extract from article regarding the US recall: "drop or total loss of oil pressure, both of which can ruin an engine. This failure can cause not only a loss of power while driving, but a deactivation of the vacuum pump that aids braking, posing the risk of rear-ending another vehicle. Ford acknowledges one crash stemming from oil pump failure, resulting in two injuries but no fatalities."

  26. Todays breakage wasn't electrical. Shower door fell in half as I opened it. 😮 The top plastic bifold hinge had snapped in two. That left an interesting predicament as I couldn't let go of the loose half without risking the bottom hinge as well. Managed to precariously balance it and grab some picture wire from the tool box to wrap around the two halves of the hinge. Not sure how long that'll hold though! Surprisingly, I found what appears to be the correct hinge on eBay for £10 delivered, and it's just screwed in, so hopefully an easy fix when it arrives. 🤔

  27. It's just another name for what people confusingly call the 'throttle body' on a diesel. Two basic functions: 1. It partially closes when the EGR valve opens, meaning the full amount of EGR is sucked into the inlet, as it physically can't pull any excess clean air from outside. (Hence air dosing) 2. It snaps shut when you switch the engine off to give a clean shutdown and prevent the small run-on & shudder that happens without them. (They are sometimes called anti-shudder valves for that reason.)

  33. I really like the Wetherspoon app. No I'm not lazy but I'm just 15 foot from the bar in a very busy pub and just ordered a beautiful pint of Abotts Ale. £1.29 a pint. Is that criminal or simply honest to goodness value for money? I say the latter. Happy Easter everyone 🍻

  34. As said previously, you could get a second hand engine fitted, and either move it on or run it for a while. If you really won't spend any money on this car, you will probably be able to sell it (provided the body/interior are tidy). I would suggest advertising it as spares or repair, either as an auction on ebay (starting price what a local scrap yard would offer), or using Gumtree.

  35. No, it didn't, however I literally just fixed it minutes ago! I noticed that I wasn't logged into 'google' and wondered if that would make a difference. When I tried logging in, I got one of the most useful popup error messages ever. It said, 'my cookies were disabled'... I must have done something accidentally when I was under the hood earlier. Reset browser to operate with cookies, and all now back to normal. I shouldn't really be let out without adult supervision 🤣

  36. Just wanna say thanks to all those that helped and especially TomsFocus with the diagram! Would have been lost without that. I will remain a member of this forums as its bl**dy brilliant with people who know what they are talking about!!!. This is why you do not need social media and old skool proper forums matter! Keep up the good work. I just drove to my dentist in the next city. Main roads 50+ felt the bonnet when I arrived. Cold! Drove back opened hood touched the cloth (no jokes about touching cloth 💩💩💩💩 but probably went through that with the fire!!! 🤣😂🤣😂😕) and the cloth was warm to the touch. Couldnt be happier... Again really appreciate your help and above all your patience! ❤️ Samantha

  37. I don't like the current fad for programme-makers to put up to 2 or more minutes of identical preamble before the start of each episode of a programme. I also find the trailers BBC puts between programmes particularly irritating. Virtually all of it is stuff of no interest to me and with digital EPG, onlne and paper versions of Radio Times I already have all the information I need. It's a total waste of time.

  38. I don't know if it is possible with these engines, but, when Renault diesel engines snap the cambelt, the camshaft sprocket can snap the key, allowing the gear to turn slightly relative to the camshaft. When this happens, if you don't realise, and time the engine using the timing pins, the engine will not turn over due to the valves hitting the pistons because the cam timing is actually wrong. I came across this when I took the timing belt off a running engine to fit a crank oil seal & a new timing belt. Someone previously had timed the engine by setting the camshaft with the valves on cylinder one "on the rock", then setting the crank so that cylinders 1 & 4 were at TDC and fitting a new belt. Needless to say, a new cam sprocket was fitted & timing set properly before it was allowed back to the owner! Sorry if this is a long winded post, but I would think of removing the camshaft and crank sprockets to make sure a key hasn't broken.

  40. Update: I managed to unclip them (after a bit of faffing around). They clip into the carpet, through a couple of cut-out slots, and I managed to unclip them using the tool shown by pushing the short end under the front of the disc and then using the tool like a crowbar to unclip it.

  41. UPDATE so its been a while since i updated my post... I have been working on and off on the powershift due to other things taking up my time but I rebuilt the box a while ago changed torque converter springs and retainers, replaced both filters and the main oil cover. also removed mechatronics and disassembled and cleaned valves and solenoids. yesterday I refitted and filled with oil, charged up battery over night and today i connected to forscan cleared all stored DTC an reset the TCM module using the option in service option tab. I am pleased to say the gearbox is now fully functioning, selects all gears up and down in S mode, has reverse and in D happily transitions each gear! no TCM faults are now present and no warnings displayed! I hope this encourages you if you are in this situation because I am not a gearbox technician or a qualified mechanic! Don't be fooled into spending 1500+ on repairing this the parts and oil cost me less than 200 and is much easer to work on than most believe! sadly there was little help online for me when I undertook this project which can be very daunting! I setup a facebook group for discussing the 6dct450 repair and I am willing to assist anyone who needs help!
