1993 Mondeo 1.8 Sale Advice

Featured Replies

I am looking for some advice please. My friend has a Mondeo, as above, that her husband bought as new - it was the first brand new car that he had owned - and unfortunately he passed away suddenly a week after buying it. My friend (his wife) has used the car very little in the past 22 years - the actual genuine mileage on the car is about 23,600 and it has always been kept in a garage. It still runs well and sailed through this year's MOT. She now is seriously thinking about selling it and realises it's value will be relatively low, but, because of the history, she is desperate for it to go to a buyer who will appreciate it. She would hate to see it around locally being run into the ground.

Are you aware of who she could approach who might be interested in buying and appreciating the car please ?

Many thanks for any help that you may be able to come up with

The car's value could be higher than she thinks with just 23,600 on the clock

Be very wary of people offering too little, as to a Mondeo enthusiast, this car could be quite valuable

A classic auction might be the way to go a car like this has to be worth a lot more to an enthusiast,

I would be tempted to approach 4 star classics, I grant you, it isn't classic as such, but it would be amongst the first of the Mondeos ever sold and if it is mint they could be interested. Are the bumpers gaffer tape free? I would advertise on Passionford, Pistonheads and not on gumtree/eBay. Hell, if it is truly mint I would approach Ford dealers, they might want one in the future for a promotion.

However, the promise of a low miler, potential time-warp car can be sullied by sentiment. I have seen many promises of the perfect low miler and it has ended up a hound, as it has been completely neglected. I would guess it may need recommissioning, perished parts replaced, belts etc and that could be used against it.

TLDR Speak to 4 Star classics. Advertise on specialist sites, avoid eBay. Very early Mondeos are getting rarer, could be worth a few quid if it is as good as it seems.
